Many people may slate me for this, but I had an interesting thought and one I think could possibly work a treat.

It involves Rafa Benitez coming back, and Kenny staying on at Assistant manager - or even some sort of Shared managerial role.

Logically if you think about it... We have someone who can control the transfers and that is Comolli. Rafa will always have a say yes, but Rafa's good signings were worth the amount of dross he signed, he did bring us 4 good years let's not forget and in each year we were trying to win something or we did. Champs league win - FA cup win - Champs league final - Prem league 2nd.

More importantly I'm thinking about the qualities the 2 would bring:

Rafa - he knows the club already and he is very tactically astute. During his early reign when he'd brought some of his own players in he did wonders with the mediocre players they have to make them gel together in the right formations etc.. He was also the one who started the rebuilding of the academy, and from the looks of it he's done a very good job. With the money NESV have, I can see him doing well as he won't have to sell to buy.

Kenny - The Legend and the man manager. If Rafa and him were to become 1 manager it would be the ultimate manager better than any manager we have seen before, because the players will play for him. He can man manage and he can inspire.

What I'm thinking is that we need passionate people in the club. Rafa is definetly still passionate about Liverpool and Kenny obviously is. I just think Kenny could do with more support at the club, after all in the end isn't that why he left? He wasn't getting the support he needed and he was just too stressed with Hillsborough.

So, In conclusion - My thought is what would your thoughts be to this kind of managerial setup? Perhaps joint managers or manager/assistant. Also, we'd let Kenny do the interviews

You're right to throw out that idea in the same way I threw out the garbage earlier. Benitez had a poor track record and wasted masses of cash on substandard players.

Shared managers don't work- see Roy Evens and Houllier. Don't want Benitez back, although I have some fond memories of him, only go back in emergency.

Kenny to keep the job or work behind the scenes.

Poor track record with what exactly?

That's not to say Rafa + Kenny wouldn't work.

People are all too quick to slate Rafa because of that last season, but once he took Valencia down to 7th. The next season he won La Liga with them. I hope others can see that with money Rafa could have been a success.

Rafa brought some entertainment to the side with his tactics and especially his early signings. He signed Garcia, Alonso and Reina in his first season for <35m. Together they're probably worth ~60m now, can you name 3 players that existed in the squad before he came in that would be worth that much? I can't.

Rafa did well for a while, but his time at Liverpool had run its course. He had to go, and I feel although he was/is good, he is also flawed. I just think going back is a dangerous option. Not sure Kenny would accept an official role now he's back in the lime light.

Unfortunately I think we need danger, we need risk. Do we want to "steady the ship," get back up into the top 4 (a hard task in itself) and maybe occasionally win the FA cup and the Champs league? No, we want to be contenders for the Champions league every year and for the Premier league every year. We want our reserve team to be able to win the FA cup themselves. To do this we need players like Alonso, Mascherano etc.. who were found by benitez in one of his obscure treasure hunting missions - I think he is a rare person that can do this type of thing. Ferguson has tried (a la Bebe) and failed at this type of thing.

Although Benitez signed quite a few good players he spent an awful lot of money on dross, which is why your team have been largely **** for a year and a half. I know the guy gave you a good time but surely its over now between you and Benitez, that ship has sailed.

    Dont you support Arsenal?

I never wanted Rafa to leave, he's a good manager and his 4 CL final appearances prove that, even moving around he still managed to make more CL finals than other rated great managers and I shall name none so as to keep this amongst Liverpool supporters.

If Rafa had 30 40m to spend on single players, which he didn't I think thngs would have been different. He did botch up the alonso thing and he can be very frustrating tactically at times, CL final 2007 for example. If he can just climb down somewhat to see eye to eye with the players he'd benefit from it.

He is not coming back, is he did it would mean shafting Kenny, Not.. Going.. To.. Happen.. until things got really bad.

Kenny has to deliver, he could be maager and Rafa coach, I'd rather Rafa stayed away from the media and transfers and coached football, when he got it right Barca United Chelsea Real couldn't live with us, but that was then. I can't see Henry going backwards unless he was very impressed with Rafa and has the nuts to stuff Kenny in the summer.

If not Kenny as manager. How about Villa Boas as manager and Kenny performing the same role as Bob Paisley did from 1985-1987.The official title was ''Assistant Manager'',but it was widely known as ''Managerial Advisor''.This was done because Kenny was still registered as a player, and Kenny needed someone he trusted on the bench when he picked himself. The whole coaching thing has improved since the arrival of Steve Clarke.I'll tell you why.
Sammy Lee was expected to play both ''Drill Sargeant'' and ''Nice Guy''.I don't think he is capable of being a ''Drill Sargeant''.He now can play the nice guy to Steve Clarkes drill sargeant. It can be Roy Evans(Nice Guy/Father figure) to Ronnie Morans ''Drill Sargeant''.In other words Kenny can become the ''New Joe ***an''.It also helps to recreate the old bootroom.I reckon this is something that FSG and Kenny wanted to create.Rumour has it,that Carra is joining the coaching staff part-time as a player coach. He has already taken his coaching badges. However my overall wish and tip is that Kenny remains as manager.

You guys really reckon Dalglish would be willing to step down to assistant without even one full season as manager? I can see him going the Managerial Advisor / some variation on the DoF route once he's had a full crack at the whip, but I think he'd tell FSG where to go if they tried to shunt him into a back seat without even one full season.

I don't want to make this in to a Wenger vs Benitez argument but we have never had that amount of money to spend and we never dropped out of the top 4 like you did.

Wev have not dropped out of the top four like you did
    Yet.
Not investing in a squad does catch up with teams.I don't think Arsenal can last much longer competitively if they continue to spend 2.50 in the transfer market every summer.

Perhaps, but that is completely beside the point as I am arguing that Rafa cannot complain about not having money to spend when we spent less than him and stayed in the top 4.

I'm sure (without research) that you have spent more on wages then us and to be fair it was only a case of food poisoning that has kept your record so immaculate

Surely you're missing the really big point that Arsenal did get a new stadium and didn't get a pair of useless Yanks pissing all their money away without investing in moving the club forwards? That's the only real reason Liverpool dropped out of the top 4 in the end.

Agreed thats a reason but majority of fans see it as an excuse. This is why I don't bring up ownership in an arguement as most rival fans (esp. those with decent ownership) seem to think that fans have some sort of say over who owns the club.

Had we'd of not sold to Hicks & Gillette then we'd probably have stayed in the top 4 but we didn't know that at the time. When new owners come in promising the earth (especially when you look to see what Chelsea were doing) it generates excitement and you believe what those owners are saying.

One thing I love about our new owners is that they promise nothing. We know the things we need to know (No debt, they don't take money from the club, they re-invest transfer funds gained, they listen to the fans) but they don't tell us about anything else. they haven't told us about any potential full time managers (unlike H&G who admitted speaking to Klinsmann), they haven't told the fans they are going to spend millions here and millions there (Remember H&G's Snoogy Doogy comment?) and they haven't given us any clear indication about where they are going with the stadium, just that they are looking down all avenues and that something will get done (Much better then the lie that was spade in the ground in 60 days).

Liverpool currently have a great foundation to become a solid champions league contending team, we just need to build on what we have. The summer will be a busy one and I doubt we'll be in the top 4 next year (the competition is too tough to make that expectation after 1 and a half seasons in charge) but the season after that we'd have finished the transition process and we'll be mroe then ready to start contendign again. the bigger they are the harder they fall. We've fallen hard but we'll get up again

Mate, fk off back to your own board, why do you think I didnt mention wenger ot anyone else, this is about Liveprool so keep stay on topic or leave it. Fkn ******s man, all theblaming of KPR and look at this sheitebag

    @Oscar
I was getting in my post at the fact that it will have to be with Kenny in agreement if anything was to happen by the summer or it would mean he is being shafted, UNLESS he has talked with Henry and they have already agreed that.

What I didn't say in my post is what I think Kenny is thinking, this is your flaw matey, you very often assume you have sussed what everyone thinks when you are not in their situation with their life experience and current circumstances, that is nigh impossible for the most part.

No wums no KPR punts and still you are on:) Just pointing it out, no probs matey, unlike the other fool above with his Voyeur reference, you are on topic, fair play, time ot remove my sig I guess:)

Lmao you poisioned spurs to make fourth a few years back if I remember correctly. Also since the team he did actually spend money on, the only real team ye have had since he took over, one with a chance of winning things, the invincibles, ye had ben inconsistent and fickly ever since. In rafa's 6 years had he not done more and improved Liverpool more than Wenger did to arsenal in the same 6 year period? including finishing above you in the l;eague more than once?

When rafa took over we were nowhere near arsenal and he caught them up nicely and passed them out at times.
Rafa is certainly a better tactical football coach than Wenger regardless of the tightfistedness of wenger his main asset to arsenal, he makes the shareholders cash

That's true, but then most fans don't have that much of a say over most of what happens to their club. I definitely don't remember voting for us to buy Bebe... <doh>

Definitely agree that you have the potential to get back into the CL and become contenders for the title again. Liverpool, like Arsenal and United, aren't even a club that needs their owners to throw money at the team a la Chelsea in order to succeed. They just need to owners to expand the stadium, get the sponsors in and make sure the club is profitable enough to allow the manager to spend.

I know you were making that point, but lots of other people seemed to have missed it out. I was wondering if people genuinely expected Dalglish to be happy to go into that sort of role after being so vocal about wanting the full manager job. Just an innocent question.

Where did I make any assumption? I asked a question and gave my opinion. Kind of like a debate. And yet you have just assumed that I somehow think I have "sussed" everyone out when you don't know my situation or my motives. I don't want to bring the "h" word out again, but that seems like a bit of an odd statement to make. After all, bow4fowler said more or less the same thing about Dalglish in his post and you made no comment at all...

Like I said - I'll post if there's an interesting debate going on and I feel like getting involved. Same as I do on the Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and City boards. I try to stay on topic, although I know I can drift off sometimes.

My point before was that the only reason I've been on here so much is that entire debates seem to have been started solely about me and my opinions. Although I'm not complaining - it makes me feel special :)
