The consistent rumours are that we are after 2 proven strikers. I would guess Yakubu and one other. If we do sign them and possibly Hoillett or Adam Johnson then where would Sess play (assuming he will stay with us which I firmly believe he will) LW? Young Jimmy has made that place his own with Kieran as back up. RW? Seb and Frazier can play there but if Hoillett or Adam J come then that would probably go to one of them. Striker? If we get 2 proven strikers in and keep Frazier and Connor or Ji for the bench there's no obvious place there. LM? Colback is the number 1 choice for me but Meyler, Richardson and Vaughan can do a job there. RM? Catts for me with Gardner as back up. I know some of these MAY go (Vaughan, Kieran and Gardner for instance) but we're well stocked in midfield. If we play 4 4 2 where will Sess play? 4 5 1 probably in the 5 (4 4 1 1) 4 3 3 he could fit into the attacking 3 In short, if we build a team around (argueably) our best player, how would it look?
It is a tricky one, but why cant he be the creative one in a conventional middle 4 , having Catts and Colback in the middle is too defensive, we have the width with McLean and Larson as wide men ( or as you say a new name ) we need one of the middle 2 to provide the extra bit going forward, Sess has a good enough engine to bomb forward and also when needed just to sit a bit. Why can't it work ?????
I agree with Shiney and I've been saying this for weeks. Try Sess' CM. Now it might not work and we might get tonked but I'd like to see it tried.
Don't think we'll end up playing 4-4-2 but we still need 2 proven strikers as we currently have no goal scorers at the club. Think sess will play off him. Agree with shiney tho, catts and colback is too defensive if only playing one up top which is why i propose dropping cattermole and buying a playmaking midfielder.
don't think we will play 4/4/2 much next season and will be more along the lines of 4/2/3/1 think Sess will be in the middle of the 3
Do you not think colback and sess is in the middle is a little lightweight and would limit sess' attacking potential. Would be happy with a Xabi Alonso/Michael Carrick type player, someone who can keep the play ticking over and can pick a pass.
I'd go 4-2-3-1 Bardsley------Brown------O'Shea-----(Left back) ------------Cattermole------Colback-------------- Hoilett------------------------------------McClean ----------------Sessegnon------------------------ ------------------(Striker)------------------------- I personally think this would be a good setup with Colback and Cattrmole fulfilling the defensive duties in front of the back 4 - Colback looks a better player when Catts is alongside him - he also gets to play more "Football" as Catts does the dog work and if he can get the ball to Colback then he can pick the pass (although Catts has come on in that department under O'Neill as well) That's my opinion (if we signed Hoileytt) - I think we need an "out and out" right winger - I like Seb and his workrate etc. but he can't beat a man - he also may be better placed in CM!
agree with that formation totally, think 1 or 2 of the players in those positions will be different mind
I agree with this mate but you have to realise depending on the team we are playing tactics will be different so it is important to have a Plan B. A lot of people are clamming for Hoilett but Sess is better than him (8 goals 9 assists vs Hoilett 7 goals 5 assists) also our current right winger Larsson also has better stats than Hoilett and thats playing all season on the right wing! So I'm not totally convinced we need Jnr Hoilett although we need cover and competition. Also going on todays rumours we could be in for Ryan Bertrand on loan from Chelsea, very good aquisition if we can nab him for next season and free up some funds for strikers/midfielders and worry about left back next summer.
Not disagreeing 10th place but Larsson and Sessegnon both played in a team that stayed up very comfortably - Hoilett's 7 goals and 5 assists were in a relegated team - so relatively speaking the records may not be that different - I agree Sessegnon is a better player than Hoilett but I think Hoilett is going to be an excellent player - Larsson has no pace for Right Wing - and he took all of our dead balls so his assists and goals came from there - he doesn't create enough in open play IMO - we also need competition for places and Hoilett and Larsson can both play right wing (or Adam Johnson) so it'd be good to have a bit of competition - never heard that about Bertrand - but he's someone I do like the look of (what little I've seen of him) so if we loan him for the season then that'll be a good move - although I'd prefer to have a permanent signing!!
Yes I agree Marcus we defo need competition and Hoilett /Larsson on the right both provide varying but very important skills that can win games, plus Hoilett's a free isnt he but would cost a few million but its still madness not to be in for him, sign him up! PS. I think Larsson's goals were quite evenly balanced actually from open play and set pieces this season dont you think? the 2 against City come to mind.
Probably right mate - he got one against Liverpool on the first day of the season as well from open play - it was more his assists I was thinking of although we hardly scored from a corner all season!! Maybe we need to work on that
Iam glad you use the word 'guess' when referring to Yakubu..because frankly Id see my arse if we signed him...hes nowt but a bloody big donkey !!
I think hes only got 2 assists all season, which is surprising but I think thats more down to Turner etc being useless at getting on the end of the crosses oh and Bendtner never in the box! Should have had an asist for the Villa away game mind, daft linesman!
But he scores lots of goals!! He's another Darren Bent - just a right place right time man and what we've missed That said - I don;t really like him either!!!
