All other things being equal if Qpr had not signed Barton last summer would qpr have finished higher or lower than 17th?

I've been underwhelmed by Joey this year and much has been said but I think this is the question we should ultimately be asking ourselves at this point.

I feel it's a tough one to call to be honest. A midfield of buzz and Derry for most of the 2nd half of season doesn't seem that formidable.

If we hadn't signed Barton we would have signed someone else. Higher.

Wake up lads Without doubt mid table ... he came in shat on NW who was lost his way anyway buggered up the team spirit. Look at the table Look at the results ... Midtable was not a million miles away ... to suggest that he kept us up is daft to the core. A team keeps you up and he did a hell of a lot to upset that ... Here endth the lesson

Dont disagree with most of that, but who would we have put in his place that put the amount of running in that he did. I'm not suggesting he kept us up, far from it, but i cant think of who we would put in there....without buying someone new...?
Buz & Derry couldn't have done a whole season, Maybe traore...?
Tough one this. I'm basing this on the amount of running he did per game....If he hadnt got sent off at City I think we could of at least had a draw, and therefore would prob be higher....

Whilst I agree with the posts with regards team spirit etc I also feel that when Joey has played well Qpr have won (Liverpool game aside) and you could argue he was our most influential player from that perspective.

I think this is exactly what makes this an interesting question. For all the negatives I think there are some positives he has brought to.
Would Adel have turned into the player he has this year without Joeys influence?

Forget Joey Barton, if Faurlin hadn't been injured then we would definitely have finished higher

    Peruvian.
Which is why I said all other things being equal.
So many if buts and maybes but did Joey help or hinder the club?

Personally , I think he helped us get through our difficult first year and the fact is we achieved the main goal with him in the team. BUT it's time to move him on now.
We need better characters than this at our club from here on in.

We signed Barton at the end of the August transfer window shortly after the TF take over and the promise to Warnock that we'd spend big. If we hadn't panicked and bought Barton we would have been in for someone of higher quality in January if required.

Put in a good shift against the Gooners and Spuds but not worth the hype before the last few home games of the season and has made the club look like a bunch of clowns after what he did at Citeh. Maybe if he hadn't signed and TF could have seen off the sharks circling around Adel we'd have been cruising at mid table comfort instead of cacking our pants on the last day of the season.

Let's say we don't get rid of him, at least there will be a couple of months of results without him in the team that we can compare to on his return somewhere around October. If we dip in form after he returns or improve when he comes back it will show in our form. Personally I don't want to take that risk and I fear for the bad vibes behind the scenes if he is still training with the squad. I wouldn't doubt for a second that he'd still be trying to undermine the confidence of some of the other players and would be giving the skunk eye to anyone who has signed that takes his place.

Best try to reach a deal that saves face and arrange his departure.

To blame Barton as the only problem this season is very naive.

There are so many factors to determine where we finish and who knows how we will have performed without him. Would one of our subs have done much better over the course of the season? He didnt have a good season at all, but to say if he was in or out and how that would affect things is very difficult indeed.

    Good question. Lower.

Agree with what's been said about the negativity and disruption he's caused. But "all things being equal" in my opinion, we'd have faired worse. Unfortunately, Buz and Derry wouldn't have cut it.

Would Young and Ferdinand have signed without him? Hard to say. They've definitely had an impact this season.

Will this experience have a positive impact on Barton, like being booed off against Liverpool and being dropped did? I hope so. Best way to apologise is come back a better behaved and committed player. I still want him out though.

Probably about the same, however if we used the money to sing someone else of quality, we would have finished at least 4-5 places higher.

That's the key. If we didn't sign him we would've brought in someone else so its a no brainer really.
