Mercenary? are you referring to me, or my team? I think by the very nature of players playing for paid contracts, they are all mercenary, non?

The whole point of winning trophies is the glory, the prestige from playing great football and being the best. I see no prestige when the foundations your club is running on are not self sustaining.

Teams over stretching on the amount they can afford is cheating, thats why they are docked points when they go into receivership. The way i see it, you are just getting away with it.

I can see why that might not be the case for those involved in the club, who get winners medals to show for Romans money, but i'm going to take a punt and say you are not involved.

For me, football is not about being able to choose a winning team, and then use that winning teams history or success to belitle another teams efforts. The glory and intrigue of the game come from watching a team build upon it's own foundations, build a fantastic stadium to fill with passionate supporters and use the love of them, and the ticket/merchandise money to sustain and grow.

Not to be on the verge of bankruptcy once, and then have success handed to you on a plate with external funds whilst causing hyper inflation with regards to player transfer fees and wages.

secondly Im guessing your buddy DL is stating that Tottenham and Arsenal are known as the Big clubs of London historically but if chelsea win the first CL title of a london club then they have some bragging rights but of course it could go tits up. You could be left playing Europa league competition with overpayed players, the old guard and a overhanging dept.

Erm, we are moving into our new 45m training facility next year.

We have moved into the advanced stages of land aquisition and talks with government over funding for the NLD.

We regularly fill our stadium (not hard with only 36k seats) and have over the past years averaged something like a 99% attendance.

Not sure where you get your info from, but if you are a gooner, when was the last time you took 3pts from WHL?
If you are a Pool fan, I think you are some way from getting your Stanley park plans of the ground.

DL is exactly right. Both clubs have 17 major trophies currently. If Chelsea win the CL then they will go ahead of Spurs. More than half of Chelsea's being down to Abramovich's money might devalue it slightly I suppose.
