Whinger wants Goons to be like the "invincibles" (no, please, don't laugh!)

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, May 15, 2012.

  1. Whinger has told the BBC that he wants his current side to be like the team that George Graham assembled for the 2003/04 season.

I know! I had a good laugh about that, too!

It always winds me up when the media and Gooners refer to that side as "the invincibles." Did they win either the FA Cup or the League Cup that season? No. And why didn't they win either of those cups? Because they were beaten. Ergo, they did not go unbeaten domestically that season.

    I rest my case.

Graham? I agree the defence was still his, but I think Wenger brought most of those players. Vieira, Petit, Overmars, Henry.

Maybe you have a sense of humour that I don't get, but Graham had long since left Arsenal at this point. Admitting that Wenger built a good team back when they used to win stuff doesn't make me a gooner?

Yes. He was smart enough to leave the old back four intact and then put Vieira and Petit in front of them. They were almost impregnable. The basis of the best team he's had, IMO.
If he seriously wants to get back to those old standards, he's got a ****ing long way to go!!

if they draw 38 of their games next year they will become the 'invincibles' again...but hopefully get relegated.

  16. The Invincibles of 03/04 have just been voted the best team since the PL began <ok>

Oh by the way - none of the starting back four were GG signings.

Starting 11 - no GG signings.
    Lehmann
    Lauren
    Campbell
    Touré
    Cole
    Ljungberg
    Vieira
    Gilberto
    Pirès
    Bergkamp
    Henry

There is a separate argument to be had regarding the effect on the players here from playing with the likes of Adams, Keown (who was still in the squad), Dixon, Winterbun, etc... I think that was significant, but the best team ever in the PL never had a single GG signing in the starting 11.

best team ever? ....id rather lose a few more matches but win a few more trophies.....ask United.

As for best team ever in the PL.........and so say all the gooners.....plus whoever voted ..like you take notice of pathetic polls....best ever save..best ever goal..ive heard it all before......give me the treble winning United team of 99 anyday.

HIAG.. You're right, our current squad is poor and stands no chance of going unbeaten. We've been going backwards for years. Could only win one of our last five matches this season...

But we can still finish above the best spurs team for years though:)

Oh the pain HIAG, it must be unbearable given all your mid season mumbo jumbo predictions :D

Your entertainment value is never less than first class though.
