After hearing a Mackem in the office take a ribbing over yesterdays result and his only come back being "Look at our remaining fixtures to yours", it got me thinking and I had a look at ours compared to theirs.

    Newcastles:

    Fixtures
    Aston Villa v Newcastle,

    Newcastle v Man Utd,

    Blackpool v Newcastle,

    Liverpool v Newcastle,

    Newcastle v Birmingham,

    Chelsea v Newcastle,

    Newcastle v West Brom,

    Sunderlands:
    Sunderland v West Brom, 15:00

    Birmingham v Sunderland, 15:00

    Sunderland v Wigan, 15:00

    Sunderland v Fulham, 15:00

    Bolton v Sunderland, 15:00

    Sunderland v Wolverhampton, 12:45

    West Ham v Sunderland, 16:00

Admittedly on paper they have what looks the easier run in as 3 of our games are against teams above us, and sunderland have games against alot of the teams around the bottom of the table.
I'm expecting the worst against Man U, Liverpool and Chelski probably a write off but all others are winnable or at least getting something from them.

Sunderlands on the other hand, Wolves,Wigan,WestBrom, West Ham. Teams who games are running out and fighting for survival.

Question is, have they really got an easier run???

Earlier in the season I'd have said yes, but now these teams are getting desperate for points

Quite simply yes. I'd gladly trade our remaining fixtures for theirs.

Having said this, the mackems lack steel and aggression. Both times, we've out-fought them this season. Maybe they can't take it.

I wouldn't call Chelski, Liverpool and Manure a total wipe off... we've nicked points from teams like this already this season, so maybe we could at least get a draw from one of the three?

Yes, they do have an easier run in. But its Sunderland, they always **** up, teams are fighting for their lives and Sunderland are ****. We have a decent record against the better teams so who knows.

I'm not bothered about finishing above them, it would be nice, but I came into this season expecting to finish below them but as long as we stayed up. Its laughable that their only target is to finish above us!

    This ^

Looking at the results so far, I do not think that you can predict the outcome of any game with any degree of certainty.

The problem for the mackems is that they will be playing against teams that are battling against relegation and should be up for the fight. However, as they showed against us, yesterday, and on a few other occasions, they seem to lack the battling qualities that they will need to overcome these teams.
Confidence must be quite low and their next game is against a West Brom team that have just beaten a resurgent Liverpool, and who under Hodgeson, seemed to have solved their defensive problems.

Point is our fixtures look pretty tough, but when you look at how West Brom, West Ham & Wolves (before Saturday) all have been putting in good performances and Sunderland are on an aweful run and seem to be struggling to score.

Looking at the fixtures I think we have enough to get something from most of our games, and Sunderland face a tougher test than they think.

One thing we have seen is that Sunderland can't handle pressure. When they are expected to win, they rarely do.

hopefully they can continue to slide down and we can keep a steady footing.
I actually think our remaining games will see us lose next week then beat Man Utd at home
Its just the way this season has gone and will most likely continue

At the start of the season I would have said the same, to stay up at any cost. Not bothered where.
But now we are above them and looking at the fixtures and it's a real possibility we can finish above them, I really want it happen now.
It would just top the season off for me

I awoke this morning to the sound of birds singing and the sun shining.

It seems as though the natural order of things has been restored.

Who wrote the article a while ago saying that the current financial state and NUFC go hand in hand? Its true! The financial state is on the way up, slowly but surely, as are NUFC.

  17. If we play well, then yes i believe we can get a result vs Mancs, but if we defend and break down at the back like we have done many times during the season, then we'll get slaughtered.

I'm sorry but alot of our bad results could have been avoided by communication at the back.

Easier games for them, but the fact is, any of them that they lose, they drop further and further down with their opponents moving up!

I think your predictions are VERY generous Mick O'Toon.

Id be happy if we amassed 7-9 points over the last few games to be honest.
