Clayton's on the transfer list, we have to assume he's gone next season.

I seem to remember a few people saying at the end of the season that we needed players to go straight into the first team, not squad players, or was I imagining that?

Well I would say that Green would be great competition for a first team spot. As Xbpod said though, you sign players as of when they become available and things don't always happen in the order you would like them. Regardless of whether we need to fill the first team or not we still need a capable squad of players. Again I don't really know enough about this guy to put any real opinion on whether he would be a good signing or not

We did and we still do but with the release list we now need both, well I think we do anyway? Last season at the start we sold Gradel and Howson, we need first team replacements for both still... This next season coming with the release or sale of Nunez, Sam, Mika we also need a squad player. I don't for one minute expect us to go into next season with 2 new midfielders, I quite expect at least 3 new signings and that is assuming we keep White, Snoddy and Clayton. Just because we are looking at a player it doesn't mean it is the Clayton replacement. It is also subjective to how good Paul Green is, some are saying good others bad, previous signings it has been the left on the shelf players who nobody else wants, this time around we are having to beat other teams for their signature, sure that spells an improvement on the quality?

Sounds exactly like the type of player we're trying to offload. The fact he's 29 and none of us seems to know much about him speaks volumes.
If we're operating with a 22 man squad next season we can't really afford to have too many average players within that squad.

Exactly, we've just put out a released/transfer list filled with Paul Greens.

I know, you would imagine unlikely but I fail to understand why Bates would appoint Warnock if things were not going to be a little different.

But... I am going to remain positive for now until we start pre-season. I only cast judgement last season when it was obvious that we were not going to end up with anyone even half decent. Yes things might go massively tits up but until they do I will remain optimistic, what else is there to do anyway? Yes you can get down and fed-up about it but you can't change it unless you have enough money to buy Bates out. I said several times last year that Leeds would not get promoted with the Bates Grayson combination. I don't think I am any more optimistic at the moment as it feels like we are in that 'newly promoted' rebuild phase. Another year another day older for Bates, one day we might have that new owner and fingers crossed we might have a nice foundation laid down by Warnock with a few Pearce/Ward type signings.

Sounds like Green might be signing for us in the next 48 hours, rumours growing everywhere... Done some more research on him and on paper he sounds half decent, last season a couple of PL teams were sniffing around until he did his cruciate in. I would have been excited about his signature if it wasn't for so many on here liking him to Pugh... Also worth considering Brown hasn't agreed to sign a reduced contract yet so someone in the middle who attracts interest from others from a team that offered him a new contract can't all be bad can it?

    Positives:
    Tough ginger midfielder
    Republic of Ireland international
    He has played right-back
He wants to leave Derby "time for a change and a fresh start"
Experienced winning in the play-offs (against us for Donny)

    Negatives
Just finished after recovering from cruciate ligament surgery

That and the fact he didnt exactly stand out in a poor Derby team and has little ability other than being able to run around alot
