Garth Crooks has named Clint Dempsey in his team of the season, one of only three players from outside the top four. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18050229 Well done, Clint.
Picking Clint really is a no brainer. He's scored 17 in the league and assisted another six. The likes of Bale, Silva and Valencia have all had good seasons but have all experienced a period of inconsistency whereas Dempsey has been consistent throughout. The only other players who should be in the team without a doubt are RVP, Yaya Toure and Vincent Kompany. The rest are up for grabs. Despite his choice of picking Dempsey, I really don't like Garth Crooks, he's so petty and childish when he's wrong. Savage tipped Villa to finish below Wolves, which is fair enough as both had awful seasons, but Crooks was having none of it. It's called an opinion Garth, everyone is entitled to one.
Crook's other choice would have been Bale, but Bale's form slipped as the season went on - that's the think that amazes me about Dempsey is his consistancy. He doesn't get injured and he doesn't have bad games - at least not this year.
There was a lot of absolute nonsense bandied about in that discussion. Crooks' disbelief when Robbie Savage was absolutely nailing the Aston Villa point sums up why he's a poor pundit. It didn't take a genius to see that Villa had no balance, no team spirit and tactics. But Crooks could only see the big name players. That said, the disbelief by Savage when Crooks picked Sessegnon over Mr David "play six months then take 3 months off" Silva was equally stupid. Silva was brilliant early in the year, but so was Sessegnon. It's called an opinion!
