CARDIFF City will be rubbing shoulders with European football’s top brass on a pre-season summer trip. The Bluebirds are off to Switzerland in July, but will only be using the country as a training base and will not be playing there. But manager Malky Mackay has called on contacts in high places to arrange City’s week-long stay at Uefa headquarters in Nyon, near Geneva.Fellow Scot David Taylor is chief executive of Uefa Events and has helped Mackay with arrangements for the trip.

“I know Cardiff fans enjoy following the team abroad for pre-season trips and if they want to come to Switzerland that’s fine,” said Mackay.“But they should know up front there won’t be any matches to watch.
“I will, though, arrange one day when the fans can watch the players train if anybody wants to do that."

I must admit, I have never really got the need to travel all over the place for a pre-season. Isn't it mostly about bonding and fitness? And if we are travelling, I wonder why we are not going to South East Asia and playing some friendlies against the national teams. Would this not be more in line with our owners ideas??

Hi siam. Hope you're in good health. <ok>

Yes, an interesting situation......again, and yes, I thought they might have been going further east. Still, quite a lot yet to be clarified. <yikes>

Most places are east for Cardiff Cling, even Gloustershire, :)

I see Cheltenham may be picking up another Cardiff youngster. They're interested in taking Evans to joing Josh Low.

Pre-season away is good as you can get the full attention for a long period. As much will be done off the field as on it with MM lecturing on his style of play and the analysts spouting their statistics (I mean that in the nicest possible way) besides living in each others pocket getting to 'know you'.

The 'not playing any friendlies but there will be a day for fans to watch us train' was a bit of a streange statement. Friendlies are always a bit hit and miss and sometimes a good training session can be better than a friendly game, but a live game does add another dimension.

Another sound bite was 'the trip to Switzerland will allow us to invite some trialists to train with us'. Given the news that MM and his team are 'scouring' Europe for tallent, I suppose it's a low cost way of bringing people to training. Also easier to keep them under wraps.

Another interesting summer head. Just hope we can get theorugh the next couple of days unscathed!

MM looking for another 10 players this summer, a mixture of 'experience and raw talent'. Hope he's looking up and not down for his talent!

Perhaps he has already been given his remit for the new season, who knows, but things should become clearer after today. looks like we have a few good away trips pre season, i will certainly be attending the Forest Green and Yeovil matches.

It is a bit big brother though, i suppose its a bit like taking Mein Kampf out in the library, and then you get the knock on the door. Facebook, Twitter et al, they are a dangerous playground for those who are of lets say, not the brightest sparks.

Not far from me. Should I invite the chaps in for a glass and a few nibbles?

If it's a week night and I'm in Cheltenham I'll bring a bottle.

Can't make the UK leg of pre-season but a day or two in Switzerland won't go amiss :)
