villa isn't an attractive job. liverpool is. its all about context. he's not a man motivated by money so they can't throw wedge his way in the hope that might work. and can you imagine how much compensation they'd have to pay?! lambert is on a year rolling contract so we could demand a huge fee for his services - they've just sacked mcleish and had to pay him off... and they're totally skint as it is! people really need to chill out!! this is going to happen quite a lot in the future where a club wants lambert, simply because he is so good! if we get this kind of reaction because of a few words he said which weren't definitive about him staying (when has he ever said anything definitive by the way?) then its going to be unbearable. its a complete over reaction from certain fans. he is a brilliant football manager but even if he did ever leave it is not the end of the world. someone else mentioned on a different thread that fans reacting like this is more likely to push him out of the door than keep him! people are behaving like a clingy girlfriend. its actually pretty pathetic.
robbie, bang on mate. i really don't think he'd say that if he was about to leave. otherwise people aren't being paranoid are they! people look into things too much and when its lambert mumbling, thats a bad thing!!
the point about the soloist and the accompanist sort of depends on who you are interviewing - ...and interviewing lambert in air or in front of the camera can be a bit unpredictable...he is the sort who will look you square in the eye and give you a one word answer when the question warrants a better response...oddly - i thought mcveigh and butler interview was brilliant - left me with a massive smile on my face...cant have been easy to get him to agree to that interview - its not his usual style...
i've not heard that interview but apparently lambert came across brilliantly. and there was certainly no suggestion that he was unhappy or feeling he'd reached the end of the (carrow) road
Im not sure who the pathetic behaviour is about really? All I've said is i won't underestimate villa, I see similarities between villa and the state of our club when he took over. We have come along way but you never know with this sport. I think there is a possibility villa is an attraction. Dont understand the Liverpool mentions they have a manager, villa don't. Liverpool will in my opinion in go for top European manager. The other thing i said is you can't blame people for worrying. Its hardly going to drive lambert out that the clubs fans want him to stay, that's a ridiculous thing to say? I do not understand that at all. As far as the media comments go. McNally seemed calm and Lamberts were nothing different. But i expect Lambert would say that if he was leaving, that's why you cant read into them. Excuse spelling mistakes, replied on my phone, on a bus and frankly its not a good combination.
I'm sure Lambert will feel better equipped to move onwards and upwards/sideways after another year of consolidating what he's helped to build here. As has been said, the infrastructure at the club is good - and getting better, he gets pretty much total support in the board backing him with transfer targets and he also knows what a great bunch of supporters he has here. The managerial merry go round will be spinning again next year - it's not like he has to cut and run now, while his stock continues to rise (This is convince myself rather than anyone reading this thread)
It's January, the transfer window is open and hot Leeds Utd property Jonny Howson is wanted by Norwich City. Act I. DM "Come and help us grow this club into a proper Premier League outfit; we've an ambitious but sensible board, a fabulous ground, fabulous support and a top class management team -- you've seen what we've achieved in the last two and a half years." JH "Sounds great, I'd love to join you. But are you confident of survival this year, I want Premier League football?" DM "Absolutely confident, especially if we have what you can add to our already great bunch of lads. AND to prove the point, we're putting some money where our mouth is to bring you on board. The manager is especially keen for you join us". JH "I'm game -- and the fishing is great in Norfolk. I'm really looking forward to joining Paul Lambert's squad." DM "Er, well, you know, Paul may not stay with us .........." Act II Young Peterborough centre half Ryan Bennett is on his way to Swansea to speak to Brendan Rogers when his phone rings, it's Norwich chief executive David McNally. DM "Come and help us grow this club into a proper Premier League outfit; we've an ambitious but sensible board, a fabulous ground, fabulous support and a top class management team -- you've seen what we've achieved in the last two and a half years. And as you know Jonny Howson has just signed for us" ....... continues as before. Act III. It's Summer 2012, Jonny Howson is fishing on the Bure when his phone rings. Its the Aston Villa chief exec. CE: "As you know, we've just appointed Paul Lambert our new manager. He wants you to join him here at Villa" ........... Yes, truth can sometimes be stranger than fiction, but this sounds to me more like a real fisherman's tale.
robbie, i think the thing here is that lambert could still leave for another club, despite what you've posted above, but what i'm amazed at is that people genuinely think villa would be a good move for him! it would be a terrible move for him and if there's one thing we've all learnt from lambert, its that he makes good calls. this would be a truly horrific call.
what happened with the Villa fans yesterday - clearly they want him. If randy learner listens to the fans he will come a knocking on our door i hope not
i have absolutely no doubt at all they will come in for him, if they haven't already! its then down to lambert to talk to our club if he's interested. if for any reason he is then things would change but if not we say no thats where it ends.
Haha, don't understand how it's pathetic to be honest, worried about an established Premier League team coming in for our manager. You don't know what Lambert's thinking, stranger things have happened in football. I don't think it'll be a good move, but I'm sure people didn't think going to bottom of the league Norwich would be a good idea too.
you misunderstand me. what i find pathetic is that some of our fans are getting so upset by it. they were upset last night because he didn't say he was definitively staying with us and people go round in circles worrying and trying to find reasons why he did or didn't say what he did and god knows what else... that is pathetic. he's a football manager. they come and go but the pandemonium is ludicrous.
I agree the overreaction about his comments are pathetic. I thought you meant being worried about him leaving was.
no, no! i understand people being worried he might leave but this over reaction is astonishingly idiotic!
Although sometimes the solosit can get lost and needs the accompanlment a little louder to help him find his place again, and the audience will also realise this when and if it happens.
Firstly, I'll say I'm not pathetic or worried about him jumping - if he goes then fair enough I won't lose any sleep. If you read my post I said if Lerner backs PL like he did with MON (which would make all the reasons you said he wouldn't be interested invalid - as there would be money to spend and they wouldn't be cutting the wage bill). You also said he doesn't have to take the first job that comes along..this isn't the first job that has came along for him. Comparing Leeds and Villa is different - Villa are already in the Premier League and if backed properly could become an established top 10 team again within a year or two with PL at the helm. Finally, I'm aware we are a progressive club but we don't know the budgets etc this summer..PL might not be backed as much as he would like and Lerner may offer those funds to strengthen at Villa. Really..who knows? He may be interested but dismissing Villa is a bad idea.
