So yesterday Villareal were relegated and they were in the CL this season! What I am trying to get at is teams such as Villareal, Sevilla, Werder Bremen, Inter, lazio, Roma, Lisbon, etc. I think these are some of the teams that we should look at for some new talent either on the cheap or that we know is quality as all of these teams were in the top competitions recently and have slid off.

I believe we will have the money to get them and the prestige is still there to pull top players over. Have a look at Chelsea and marko marin ( who I wanted for us). A year or so ago WB were in the CL and he was touted around for 20 mil, they have had a little slip and he is sold for 7 million!!!

Do you have any other teams that fit into these categories or players from these teams you would love to see at Anfield?

With Villareal- cani and Rossi ( Looks like Zapata missed a trick with us!!)
Sevilla- Negredo, Jesus Navas ( homesickness would be a problem)
Roma- gago (RM loan), Pjanic, Lamela, Bojan, Simplicio
lazio- Klose ( old but reliable), HERNANES
Inter- Milito ( not anymore, that chance went in jan), Forlan, Sneijder ( United or city prob), Ricky Alvarez, Zarate ( lazio loan)
    Lisbon- V. Wolfswinkel, D. capel

Just curious of any other teams that these options could fall under. Season is over and there is a month before Euro's, might as well speculate a bit!

Nice to see this topic, I have had the same thoughts with many European teams that haven't done too well. I would add a few to your list though:

Athletic Bilbao - Munain, sussaeta, few more others after they finished 10th in the league.
Atletico Madrid - Falcao and co may cost a lot, they have won the Europa league, but not champions league
Napoli - Cavani, Uruguayan links possible. Probably big money move elsewhere. Couple more from their team.

Ya jaffa, it was a quick list but many others could be added that have missed out. Ath. madrid also have Turan ( yes real and yes was interested in us), Adrian, and Diego ( again one we almost got).

napoli I would throw in Lavezzi obviously and Zuniga ( RB,LB, Wing possibly).

When I saw how much marin went for, I could not believe it, literally last year he was valued at 20 mil! In the German league have a look at Stuttgart, Schalke, and Leverkusen for some good deals ( Schrulle for Leverkusen could be massive, Renato Augosto from them as well).

French league, Lyon have had a massive drop and Michel bastos, width, can play in the back if need, Lisandro Lopez GOAL POCHER, would link well with Suarez I would think and be much cheaper than many aforementioned. If we can get him firing Gourcuff would be nice as well.

Problem with Falcao is that he cost Athletico Madrid €35m so we'll need to top that which is unlikely unless you're a Geordie with long hair! However, Madrid have a bit of debt and may be forced to sell?

Cavani is unlikely as he is one of the most coveted players in the Europe atm and I can see richer clubs taking him on. However, we do have Suarez and Coates who could help persuade him.

Sticking with Napoli, I would like to see Lavezzi come to us. Similar to Suarez and Tevez - hard working, stocky, good feet, tricky. Probably not the type of player we need desperately but I think him and Suarez playing on the wings in a 4-3-3 could be pretty tasty.

if this happened, what dreams may come

    lavezzi--L. Lopez---Suarez

tricky, pacey, unlock defense, poacher. Would be good. Doubt it would happen though :/

I am sure there might be some from benfica that might jump or Porto as well, but they normally sell at top top prices hence only Lisbon in the mix.

Also from marseille- Valbuena, D. Ayew, and Remy.

I think Remy will be going to Spurs this summer, according to a few rumours.

But a forward 3 like that would be immense. I can't see Kenny adopting that formation though, he tends to play 4-4-2 which is a shame.

Instead of Lopez, I can see us making a move for Soldado ...

Madrid - Diego Godin, Mario Suarez
Napoli - Gargano, Inler and Hamsik. Couple midfielders we could definitely use also.
Schalke - Jan Hunterlaar top goalscorer this season in Germany.

Afellay from Barca would be a great buy imo and wouldn't cost much.

009- I agree on Soldado, but lopez is awesome when he is on form and gets goals, could depend on price and age? valencia also have CL footy so that would be tough or I would also say banega in a heartbeat.

Forgot about Gargano and Inler! Although Inler just joined so not sure on that one. I am not sold on hamsik, I think there are better out there and he would cost a lot at this point.

Schalke also have Farfan who has been in good form and Jurado who we have been linked with.

There are definately a lot of quality players out there who are realistic. IMO - these are the sort of players we should be targetting, not Dempsey.

I would not mind Dempsey but if we could get any of the aforementioned then it is a no for me. <ok>

The weird thing I have noticed is , kind of off-topic this, but when was the last time we heard about a Boca or River Plate home grown produced player? Not sure what is going on at both, River was relegated last year and both clubs aren't really turning out players like they normally were, it is more like Lanus, Estudiantes, velez, etc.

Also in the Brazilian league, Dede at CB, Ganso ( if we can, would be expensive) from santos, Lucas Moura ( madrid might have him already).

What worries me more is that teams that HAVE finished in a CL place will be talking the same language about Liverpool players!! Anyone fancy Reina, Skrtel, Agger, Lucas, Suarez??? <yikes>

    Good point Bluff.

Under Parry we would of taken years to even look at these players/clubs.

I reckon we might be sniffering around now with some genuine intent!

We signed Alonso, Garcia, Reina, Agger etc under Parry. Harsh to criticise him for the players we scouted or bought, he had nothing to do with that. He was just backed by a rubbish indecisive man who could never make decisions.

    Fiorentina are worth a look.

They've got a number of good players, Jovetic for obvious reasons being the major one though he wouldn't be cheap AT all.

Ljajic would be a good shout, he's a good kid with a massive potential, shame this recent incident with that idiot Delio Rossi happened. Still that increases the chance of a sale.

Vargas could be looked at, but I don't rate him as he is too selfish for a winger. He gets away with it as Fiorentina are poor but here he would need to be less selfish. He's better than Downing though.

Also I think we shouldn't be looking at the commonly touted names linked to us, or any player from Britain. That experiment failed, its usually signings from these European clubs that are successful. We've ignored them for a while as it doesn't seem very Moneyball-like but there's a massive source of talent in Europe waiting to be tapped.
