Looks like Sean O'Driscoll is going to Crawley. http://www1.skysports.com/football/competitions/leaguetwo Would prefere Adams to Robson, these I think are the most likely. UTG!!
I have gone for Other as my choice is Paul Ince, I think he would be a great choice as he has done well at this level in the past however my worry would be if he did not get a good start he may walk so I am not sure so other than him I like the sound of Dennis Wise, however we are more likely to see Dennis Oli reapear at the club than have Dennis Wise me thinks. But I think we will probably not see any of the above it will probably be Micky Adams who would be welcomed to the club by me as I think he would be good, I very much doubt that Mark Robson will be back, I don't even know why he is favourite for the job, why have the bookies valued him so high as it is not like he has come out and said that he wants the job or is interested in it so where did they get that from, I think if anyone should be favourite it would be Micky Adams and also I am surprised that Nicky Forster is not on the Sky Bet list considering his links to Gillingham and also how we love bringing in people from Dover due to our great link with the club. Anyway it could be anyone who gets the job or annoyingly it could be no one we have even mentioned at any point, so we will just have to see.
hess staying on or not will have a big impact on the decision im sure. not only will he get a say im sure but we would have to get a manager who would be comfortable with having him (or anyone) in that position, which would rule out the stronger minded more controling managers. for me lee clark would be a good choice good tactically but maybe not so good with the money and picking players, hess can help/sort that part leaving him to concentrate on the football or mark robinson as he had a big impact when he came in as a coach so can clearly get the best out of the players and hopefully tactically as well ok new to management but again he'd have the backing of hess. (ps think hes fav as he stated before that he wanted the job hence why he left after being offered the number 2 role or whatever it was) if hess doesnt sign then this changes things dramatically as we need an allround manager who can spend (a large budget for the division but still not massive) wisely but also set up the team in the right way
Found this website link that people might be interested in having a read, I hasten to add though there is absolutely no suggestion on my part that there is any interest in him... http://www.stephenconstantine.co.uk/
Thanks BRB, don't know much about him to be honest, he has now moved to 2nd favourite since my last mail, not sure what we can read into that if anything to be honest. He will not have any essential knowledge of the teams or players in league two which will not help his cause. http://www.skybet.com/football/manager-specials/event/13985963 UTG!!
Is knowledge of the team essential Stu? Surely coming from a completely different league would be a benefit seeing that he will have no preconcieved ideas about the players and therefore would be able to judge them on ability alone and not reputation, be it good or bad.
BSG I agree that having no pre conceived ideas in regards to our players, but feel his lack of knowledge in regards to the opposition (teams and players) would put him at a disadvantage to managers like Adams or Scott for example. As I have said I know very little about him or his experience in this league or his abilities to get us out of it, so would be open minded should he get the job, but I for one still remain slightly confused by the two names at the front of the betting odds. UTG!
BSG, looking into his CV he has not managed a club at any level in the UK, good coaching qualifications etc but I am still not inspired by the thought of him trying to get us out of this league. UTG!!
I have looking around all this morning for information about him and he seems to be highly talented with his qualifications and his tactics, also he seems to be strong with discipline, not sure yet, but he is defiantly worth an interview.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained, when someone posts their email address on a website, sorry but the temptation was to great! Just wait and see now. ps. the twitter link... #ConstantineforGillingham - https://twitter.com/#!/search/#ConstantineforGillingham
Did you send him an email, I did so aswell was not going to say, but I got a reply I was going to say about it, just could not help myself either.
Constantine had the coveted UEFA Pro Licence which means he deserves some respect. The only Gills person with this level of qualification is Iffy. He would be in a good posiition to re-sign Chris Dickson who is a success out there in Cyprus (it really is that bad a standard). So, he is a less impressive and less relevantly experienced alternative to Iffy. Plumbing the depths of the Mediterranean.
He has had international experience and I would suggest that those position would imply a great understanding of the game and tactical nouse, which many felt was lacking under Hessy. Also he is well travelled which would suggest a good number of links to otherwise untapped footballing resources for the club. Also if Hessy does stay on the need for local knowledge (but I am sure he (being english) has a level awareness of the english game) becomes reduced.
He has had a number of international positions, how is that less impressive than Iffy, who has only had the one?? Also will Gills fans stop banging on about Dickson, he proved that he can't cut the mustard in L2 which numerous clubs including his second splee here... the first spell was a purple patch which he seems unable to match. Not good enough and it is time to move on.
I am still not convinced he is the right man to get us out of this league, more than happy to be proved wrong though. Not in my top 5 for the job. UTG!!
I would not put him top of who I want, but he is probably in my top 5 maybe, just have to see, My list included Ince, Wise, Robson, Adams and then maybe Constantine, however I would also like Taylor back at the club, that is Peter but one problem is he likes to leave clubs too much.
If you follow me on twitter, you will see that Stephen Constantine has responded to my question: 'would you be interested in managing Gillingham FC if approached by our Chairman?' Response: Hello Roy and thanks for the email, the answer to your question is yes............... Obviously I have no means of validating the respondent other than evidence of the return email address and a few other details attached within the message. Further confirmation regarding the situation has just been reported via this article...http://www.kentnews.co.uk/sport/constantine_wants_gillingham_job_1_1377198
BRB he sounds keen and has clearly thought about the role, he must be up there with a shot due to the sudden drop in odds, he also states he would be keen to work with Hess, mmm watch this space. UTG!!
Wonder what Scally will think, because will he consider him good enough for the job as he may have to do a bit of research into him and has he got the time for that.
