Giggs is Welsh, so on the whole the media are less bothered. Boys will be boys and filthy rich boys particulary aren't always impeccably behaved, some of our own included. Jack Cork for one parties hard and plays the field by the sounds of things. He's a very professional footballer as are many players who are typical lads off the pitch. Giggs has kept his misdemeanours seperate from his football, while John Terry is just a prick.
Imagine going away with your work mates for 3 weeks knowing that one of them was as big a prick as John Terry. Its a miracle he doesn't have the captaincy can you imagine being told what to do by a man as foul as him?
Wouldn't take Terry. Just don't like him and he's not as good as people (or himself) thinks. Wouldn't take Oxlade-Chamberlain either. A major tournament is not the place to blood a new player (look at what happened when Walcott went to World Cup in 2006 - never got a game). So my sqaud would lokk something like (injuries to Cahill and Parker permitting:- GK: Hart, Carson, Green DEFENDERS: Richards, Walker, Cole, Baines, Ferdinand, Jagielka, Lescott, Cahill MIDFIELD: Walcott, Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Milner, Young, Johnson, Parker ATTACK: Rooney, Crouch, Defoe, Welbeck/Bent If Parker isn't fit might be tempted to take another striker as we'll be without Rooney for first 2 games.
The media were pretty interested in Giggs' misdemeanours as I recall! They just couldn't report it what with that injunction and all. Are you sure about Cork though? He's in a long-term relationship, his girlfriend moved with him from Burnley when he moved to Saints. Not many people seem to know the full story behind Sharp's 'difficult year' though, I wasn't too impressed to find that the child he lost was with his mistress just months after he married someone else! Don't know what the others are like, I'm sure the Saints squad has its fair share of scumbags, but most of them are professional as players at least.
The amount of people that secretly do this is unbelievable and it's only because he is in the media spotlight that his lifestyle choices get scrutinized.Loads of people cheat on their wife's/husbands,they are just lucky enough to get away with it... 90% of players moan at the ref. He is a big shot,he plays for chelsea and earns thousands of pounds.Everytime I've seen him on TV he is very well spoken and polite. He isn't perfect, but then again no one is there are worse people than him out there, just give the guy a break he doesn't care about who hates him or not...at least he is not raping 16 year old's like Steven Gerrard...
He looked embarrassing when we played against Germany,he looked very, very slow as the germans were whizzing past him and he had to catch his breath.
Adam, sorry, but your attempts to defend Terry are not very effective. Even if it was ok to cheat on your wife, that's not all he's done! And nobody is defending Gerrard's behaviour either, but Terry has more black marks against him than anyone. Oh and by the way, that rape comment is slander, I'd advise you to at least add an 'allegedly' in there.
John Terry has not been world class for 8 years, nor is he a superb passer or technically gifted is formed dipped when Carvahlio left. I dislike Terry as much as anybody but i would still take him has he does put his body on the line. Ferdinand on his day is still class as is Gerrard although after this tournament i would start to blood the youngsters. I agree with not taking Oxo, look what happened to Walcott, the evidence is there. Rodwell, Smalling and possibly Parker are all out of the the Euros. Do we take Bent considering we will have no match practice. My squad would be: GK: Hart Carson Ruddy RB: Richards, Walker CB:Ferdinand Terry Cahill Lescott Jones LB: Cole Baines/Gibbs CM: Gerrard, Lampard Parker Carrick Barry RM: Walcott Johnson LM: Young Milner CF: Rooney Sturridge Crouch Final place would go to Carroll or Downing (not sure who would get it) My starting XI would be Hart Richards Ferdinand Terry Cole Parker Lampard Walcott Gerrard Young Rooney/Couch/Sturridge As we are likely to only play one striker i would only take 3, sturridge seems to think we can play that role up front on his own so i would give him a go. If not Crouch, would also like to see walcott play up front with rooney behind as that is where walcott started and rooney is more effective. Would have more cover in defence given ferdinand's fitness.
Apart from Hart and Rooney, the only definite would have to be Ashley Cole. Different class this season, always performed well and has a wealth of experience. Lescott and Cahill must be in with a shout of starting at the back, and anyone who is doubting Gerrard clearly don't know football well enough to see he is still world class. He has had a couple of knocks this season and suddenly everyone labels him as injury prone. He should definitely be on the plane.
The Walcott scenario is not comparable with Oxo's. Oxo has played for Arsenal and has looked impressive. He's ready, Walcott wasn't. Also prideofthesouth, you'd take Terry "because he puts his body on the line"? Is that really all it takes? Even with all his other flaws? There are good professionals in league two who should be called up on that basis.
My team would be -------------------Hart------------------------------ -Richards--Lescott---Cahill----Cole-------- --------------------------------------------- -----------Parker--------Barry------------ ------------------Lampard---------------------- ---Walcott-------------------------Young--------- ----------------------------------------------------- ------------------Crouch--------------------------- I wouldn't take Rooney. He's never been good enough for England. England having a better record without him proves that. I wouldn't take Terry or Ferdinand either. I've liked the look of Lampard in the champions league this season and feel like he would be very good for England playing similar roles. I'd take Chamberlain in the squad.
I agree fully with this team, apart from Crouch and maybe Walcott. Rooney, despite his ban, has to go to the euros and has to start when available. He is the best english attacker and his displays this season have only gone onto to back me up further. I would like to see Chamberlain get a starting place. He is young and has the fire in his belly to succeed. I also think, genuinely, he is a class player. But, Walcott with his experience will get the nod over him.
I wouldn't take any of the old guard. I doubt if even the media expects us to get anywhere in this competition. Might as well get the future used to playing with each other and on the big stage, probably have just as much of a chance of getting somewhere with the younglins as with the 'g-old-en generation' anyway
I'm really not liking England's strike-force of late. Even though he hasn't scored loads this season and plays in the Championship, I think someone like Carlton Cole would be ideal. Defenders do find him hard to lock-up sometimes. Welbeck is definitely a good shout. Anyone for Sturridge?
Are you suggesting I don't know the difference between libel and slander? That's almost certainly libel or slander! Before you bite, I know that for it to be defamation it has to be untrue...
Ok, fair enough, I didn't realise you meant he is actually good enough. We'll have to agree to disagree on that
