As a Spurs fan, we are in desperate need of strikers, and frankly I wouldn't mind either of these two coming to London. What do you reckon your chances of holding onto both of them in the summer, as there will surely be a lot of interest from various parties around Europe

I think if you get champions league, to be honest, you could get ba because of the release clause. The astronomical amount we'd want for Cisse will rule him out of a move - end of.

I think Cisse would take a hell of a bid to buy bought the biggest danger this summer in my opinion is keeping Demba Ba, I can see Spurs pondering triggering that release cause.

What's the clause, £8m? Good buy for any team, not just CL. EL is still a half decent competition (having to play on thursdays is a bit of a pain but...), and as such the quality of players Newcastle attract will go up. Got people like Cabaye, and Cisse for steals, I'm thoroughly looking forward to who you get next season, as long as it isn't to the detriment of us :p

I'd personally hold on to Cisse before he's exactly the sort of striker we need for our style of play.

Ba is a fantastic striker, but I think he may find it hard to adjust to our new style, and eventually I think we'll go for two wingers and a striker up front, leaving Ba as a 2nd choice.

Ba wants to be a first choice striker, and that may be the reason he leaves.

If we play long balls and 4-4-2 we'd eventually call on Shola to be the target man next to Cisse, and in 4-3-3, Ba will play well but not get goals.

I see Ba leaving, and if he gets to go to Spurs I'll be very happy for him.

He needs to be at a club where he'll be first choice striker, and I don't think he will be at Newcastle.

I can't see him leaving us to another EL team tbh though. Would have to be CL to tempt him to move because from what you read the guy isn't motivated by money and he's loved here and is really enjoying playing for us!

Depending on who goes where in the summer, could this mean he goes abroad? Utd don't need him, neither do City. Arsenal might but we'll have to wait and see about RVP. Spurs, depends on how much cash we are prepared to splash. L'pool are too fond of their racist. Guess a team like Everton might bid, but he's better than that level

I think Tash believes Ba will be second choice because it seems the long term formation is 4-3-3 leaving just the one CF.

I guess not having your 1st and 2nd choice strikers both from Senegal, and therefore vulnerable to Africa Cup of Nations absences during a crucial time of the season would be fairly good

Think the AcON might work in our favour of retaining Ba (and Cisse). They'd both command huge fees and wages, but then be missing for a chunk of the season. The season after is the one that we're probably more prone to losing them.

Yep. Think it's gong to be a tough season, trying to replicate our form from this season, perform in Europe and hopfully chasing one of the domestic cups alongside losing 2 strikers (also Tiote and possibly others depending on signings) for a chunk of it too!!

As with every season, and every team chasing Europe, it depends who everyone signs, and if any star players get injured. With Euro 2012 coming up, there is potential for a lot of top players in EPL to miss the beginning of the season

I can see Ba (if he leaves) going somewhere like Dortmund or Napoli. Possibly Napoli if they lose Cavani/Lavezzi.

I ant see ba going to any EL rival in england. If he goes anywhere it will probably be PSG in France. Openly said he would like to play for them one day and they will be in CL next season.
Don't forget though, we took a chance on Ba. That knee issue is still there. Showing no signs of it this season mind but there is a reason he has failed two medicals. That might put top clubs off him. For me, our biggest worry out going this season will be tiote or HBA.

I think its more likely they'll both stay than leave to be honest. Cisse will stay. Ba will depend on these ongoing contract talks to remove the clause. I'm fairly hopeful both will still be here but Ba is not a racing certainty.

the thing i don't understand about the release clause is this: it is an amount at which we must accept an offer made, but surely in Ba's case there will be more than one club interested at the £7mil price and in this case a bidding war will push the price up. OK, we may have to accept offers at £7mil but if two offers come in we will still accept the highest. And, in this case, with the release clause not being the usual pretty high figure that it is, that is much more likely. After all, if Spurs bid £7mil, then why shouldn't Arsenal bid £8mil and Man U bid £10mil, so Spurs would be better off just going in with £20mil (nearer the players actual value) to avoid this situation.

As I understand it Ashley can't say 'no' to £7mil, but he is not forced to accept £7mil if someone else bids £10mil, £20mil, or (come on 'Pool) £50mil.

They'd all just bid 7m and be able to speak to him. he would then make a choice on stature of club/wages. There would be no bidding war, clubs just wouldn't do that.

From Pardews interview the other day, they'll be looking to remove that clause and get Ba pinned down to a better contract. So think the club are looking to hang onto him.
Cisse - can't see him wanting to move since he's only been here 5 minutes and as mentioned earlier his contract buy out will be over the top.

I think we'll lose one big player this summer and that will be Tiote, I've heard rumours about the club considering letting him go (which could be utter bollox). I think the club will work on the basis of let one player go for a large fee to help fund bringing in 3-4 more new faces. That wayyou keep pretty much the same team but are still adding to it, and when Tiote has been out we have had players who can cover his position pretty well. so isn't as specialised to his position.

As for Guthrie and Pardews comment, it sounds like he spat his dummy out cause he isn't playing every game and pardew won't put up with it. which is silly considering the number of games are going to go up with the Europa League and he is more likly to get a game.
