thanks for the caramel latte Ak, much needed before a tragically long day of work lol. Okay, i'll be finished by 5pm, but it'll seem long, it's Sunday!
Morning all Good day at the cricket yesterday...400+ runs. Another lovely sunny morning so I'll be in the garden putting up runner bean sticks and planting geranium pots.
Morning, BB. A shame we can't direct a little southern weather your way but I hope the book is small compensation. Funnily enough I spent an hour or so this morning beginning the edit/rewrite on the second Winfrith novel (of three). It will be on Kindle in 6 months or so I'd guess. Do let me know what you think...a bit of feedback is always useful...
Thank you all for the good wishes for my travels. It won't be until the end of July and beginning of August, but I had to get thestuff organised or I could have been stuck with 15 hour multi hop flights to do a flight that could take an hour, London to Manchester via Rome Paris and Frankfurt anyone? No, I think not. Fortunately it goes as a business expense so I will gain some benefit a little from the taxman.
Don't think it's going to happen now. QPR only need a point, and they're winning. What does worry me slightly is the possibility of Bolton being punished under the financial fair play rules as a result of paying Muamba's wages. That would be a massive, massive own goal for the Championship's reputation, and I hope something is done at an early stage to make sure we can't possibly end up in that situation in 18 months time. They should of course have to abide by FFP, I just think a specific exception should be made should Muamba not be able to play again and Bolton decide to do the decent thing.
Definitely the best the top level has shone in the 21st century. City's comeback up there with United's in 1999. But if Barton isn't prosecuted for what he did after being sent off, assault is now officially legal.
Did you see Tevez do him first though? Anyway what an amazing game and season... and after that I have to say i am glad QPR didnt go down....such defending and two great goals on the break.... incidentally Bolton going down means another local game for yorkie next season. I better get on with the chores now
I'm fine with Barton's foul on Tevez. That's heat of the moment stuff whilst the game is going on. You can put that down to aggressive passion, and if it's a red then you send him off. What he did to Aguero and tried to do to Kompany is something else.
evening all, what a great last day of the Prem season, thoroughly enjoyed it! Was disappointed with the results, but at least QPR stay up ... How's everyone's day been?
Morning all, after a few nice days we are back to the wet and cold. Had a very busy weekend up and down to Thanet visiting my Mum and then my Wife's Birthday and dinner party so looking for a rest today. Great airport stories, seems everybody has had a story to tell (except poor old H's 5 hour delay) I think I've told you about my trip to Guernsey when they took my trolly off me while I was waiting for my lift so they could put it inside and lock up the airport. In 1968 when I was 17 my parents took me my Sister & some mates on holiday to Spain, on arrival at Gerona Airport I was carrying my Mum's Vanity Case (remember them) anyway I had long hair then was wearing a flowery shirt with a Dr Kildair collar and stacked shoes. I must have looked a right tart but it was the fashion then. Anyway I got stopped by the customs officer who requested I open the Vanity Case. I tried to explain that it was my Mum's and I didn't have the key, My Mum had already passed through so I could not get her to open the case. He stood remonstrating for about 10 mins, he spoke very poor English and I spoke no Spanish. Anyway to cut a long story short after a while the Customs man must have believed me and let me go. When I got outside and told my Parents what had delayed me my Mum informed me that the case was not locked (she had lost the key years ago) and just opened the case. Thanks for the coffees Ak over the weekend, I hope you've got your lines sorted out on your breakfast post today.
Charlie, it's been wet and cold up here for the last few days - and today looks like being no different. My favourite airport memory is rather a happy one - although it did occur on a rather sad occassion. In 1997, I was living in a small town in Central Queensland called Emerald (a victim of the recent floods - my old house was completely submerged for over a week). I got a phone call at 1:00am one Saturday morning telling me that my dad was in hospital in Scotland and wasn't expected to last the weekend - a bit of a shock as we weren't aware that he was sick. Five hours later, I was en route by air, flying from Emerald to Brisbane to Sydney to London, then driving up to Scotland - unfortunately, dad died half an hour before I got there. My son was two at the time, and was very much his dad's boy - he refused to let anyone else put him to bed & I had followed our usual routine on the Friday night, putting him to bed around 8:00pm. According to my wife, he was absolutely devastated when he woke up the next morning to find that I had gone, spending the next month of my absence like a little lost soul. After helping my mum with funeral arrangements etc, I headed back home to Oz. Emerald, being a rather small country town in the middle of nowhere, has a somewhat tiny airport - the terminal is smaller than my house & the single runway isn't large enough for jets, There are only four flights daily - two in and the same two out again! The arrivals area, which doubles up as the departures area, is a verandah at the back of the terminal which is fenced off from the runway by a small fence that you can step over, and the planes taxi up and stop about 20 yards from the fence. When I arrived back there, I had just stepped off the plane when this little red-haired bullet jumped the fence, sprinted towards me, jumped up into my arms, knocking me over in the process - much to the amusement of everyone there - and simply wouldn't let go. Brings a tear to my eye whenever I think about it.
Góðan daginn til allra. Cappuccino, coffee, tea donuts and fruit are on the bar. Akureyri is horrible this morning I have prepared glögg as well. We have -2C snow and strong wind and snow.
