Until today I considered the pasta to be a pay driver Now i think he has a years experience which is helping him to deliver on the promise he showed by winning GP2
Well, so far that's almost true! Sorry but I had to post the last one, it was just too much to resist
Am sure there were many in teh early races suggesting what a 'decent' driver could do with a Williams when him and Senna were bagging 6th & 7th places. Based on today, if a ****e driver can win a race, I think we have found the new Adrian Newey at Williams as that thing must be faster than light Wouldn't suprise me if they won another race this year, but the Williams clearly is suited to certain tracks only so I can;t see them being this competitive at every race. What bets for a Lotus win at Monaco to make it 6 winners, 6 teams, 6 races!
I don't want to get ahead of myself but Pastor was pretty handy around there last year in that dog of a Williams. What can he do this time?
That's not necessarily true, they brought a big upgrade to Mugello so it could be genuine pace. It's so hard to read anything though because the field is so tight, they're all bringing upgrades and form can change significantly based on track layout, tyre allocations and the weather. I'm sure Williams said earlier that consistency is key for the championship, so they might think this is more than a flash in the pan. I think there are seven teams this year with race winning potential (Lotus, Sauber and the five who have already won), it's crazy what's happening, no one could've predicted this.
I'd planned two outside bets for this season; Pastor for a podium in Monaco and Kimi for the win in Spa, assuming they'd both have massive odds. Clearly not going to happen now.
Fair point AG. If its all down to the upgrades and Williams have got them spot on then maybe it was not a flash in the pan. Can't ever remember the outcome being so unpredictable to a race. Whoever comes top of the prediction league this year can be be very proud!
I was watching the GP2 race this morning, and the commentators remarks that Maldonado was very quick in Monaco in GP2. Back to back anyone....
Looking through the race, When Massa and Button were passing one of the Force India's together in the space of a few corners, I'm sure ther were yellow flags being waved in that sector. Certainly when Button was there as th green light could clearly be seen flashing away after he made the move, Massa did the job one corner earlier and I think was okay. But seemed odd it wasn't looked at.
Don't think so. When... Pironi I think it was broke down at Monaco in the closing laps of 1982 or 83 GP there - the crazy one which Patrese won - distinctly remember Walker saying that if he was push started then he would be disqualified.
I think it's worth noting that Williams also got the strategy spot-on today. Their experience should count for a lot over the course of the season.
