We are already coming out of a WORLDWIDE recession. Sorry for the caps, some people seem to forget the recession was worldwide.

Tories are not ruling out raising VAT and they plan on dramatically downsizing public sector employment.

So, if I and my colleagues lose our jobs how is that going to help the econamy? I wont spend money in the shop, or go to the pub etc.

Tories also want to raise the retirement age - I'm surprised this hasn't been highlighted further. They plan tax increase for the low earners and effectively tax CUTS for the big earners.

All the parties are raising the retirement age, some just not right away. Rest assured it will be at least 70 by the time your thinking of retiring <ok>

I know the recession was worldwide, but Gordon Brown caused it <ok> Little known fact.

If you lose your job you could maybe finally fix this place <whistle> Full time administrator..........

I'm going to be a student for the next 6 years probably so any party that promises to pay my fees will get my vote <ok> Think it's looking like 16-17 grand

Under a Tory government we will be back in a recession. VAT will be rised and jobs will be lost. That isn't going to help the economy.

    <laugh> nev

like the lib dems tax ideas on not taxing the first £10k, this would actually mean that people would make more cash working rather than living on benefits where as now who's going to work for a extra couple of quid a wk <doh>

the tories are vague on everything, if they get in its just because they're not gordon brown which is not a good enough reason to be in charge of running the country.

as for labour gordon brown generally sounds the most solid on plans for the recovery, yes he was in charge when the reccession hit but he did oversee ten years of unprecedented growth before this as chancellor. he just shouldnt be allowed outside, whoever told him to smile more should be sacked, he looks like he wants to bite out your throat whenever he smiles

My tongue was firmly planted in my cheek when I said that <laugh> <doh>

I don't understand how we will definetely be in another recession under the tories. Fact of the matter is, whoever gets in, things will still generally be the same.

LR I like that idea on tax, until I graduate and then I'll probably hate it because top earners would need to pay more to subsidise it <ok>

Looks like labour are ****ed, which means we are all probably ****ed, because the tories will revert to their same old slash and burn "cure" for our problems. If it's a hung parliament we could be going through all this election **** again in about 6 months, but I don't think GB will be in charge of labour by then.

Did you see what the Bank of England guy said? That the party which wins will be unelectable for about a generation after this, due to the severity of the cuts etc needed to turn it round ! ****in scary.

i'm with labour on the fact that the recovery needs to be supported for another year before cuts whereas the tories want cuts now. i'm just not convinced that 0.4% growth (0.2% in scotland) is really stable enough to start slashing away. i know what you mean about tax though, if i ever hit the top 20% of earners i'll become a tory overnight <ok>

Cut public sector employment dramatically taking £6b out of the econamy. How are people going to be able to pay for stuff without any money? The country will stop once again. Will be even harder to pay for stuff once they raise VAT to 20%.

A Labour government has never raised VAT, but the Tories have always done so after getting into power.

    I'm not in the public sector so couldn't give a **** <ok>

All my work comes from private companies and the scottish executive which has already been signed <ok> I'll still be able to spend money.

That and the fact I have about 15K sitting in a bank account will see me through <ok>

Maybe council workers will start doing work if they think jobs are at risk, rather than sitting on there fat arses <ok> <whistle> (tongue in cheek, in case you struggle to pick up on it)
