Have we the right to become sanctimonious over Pompey's plight?

Discussion in 'Southampton' started by St. Luigi Scrosoppi, May 12, 2012.

With regards to Pompey's plight:

  1. The fans must carry some of the blame.

  2. You can't blame the fans for owners the errors.

Afternoon folks and I hope we all have a great one as we sit out in our gardens listening to our future opponents thrash it out for the league title, champions league places and avoidance of the drop. Can I compare the PFC situation to that of going to the local pub? Once upon a time the pub was packed with customers who would go there to socialise and taste the great quality of beer. New owners come along and decide to change suppliers. Soon the traditional customer notices a change in the quality of beer (from real ale to a fizzy concoction). So the traditional customer disappears elsewhere. The moral is that Pompey fans do have a choice - either put up with the crap on offer from Chanrai (fizzy beer syndrome) or boycott the place until he has disappeared. I'm not suggesting to moving over and support Saints (I've always supported both well when deserving of my support) but perhaps lend support to the Hawks, Gosport Boro and Fareham perhaps until the new dawn can be seen.

Because their infighting over positions of power meant the real issues were not being addressed.

Can't we feel sorry for them, absolve them of all guilt (by association) and STILL laugh at them?

Of all the directors over the Lowe era, both Mk1 and Mk2 the only one I have any time for is Leon Crouch. He sided with Wilde to remove Lowe. he was powerless when Wilde changed tack and brought Lowe back. When Lowe drove us into the ground, with his sell our best players, bring in inexperienced kids, and appoint joke managers leadership, Crouch helped keep us afloat with his own money, until Saint markus came in to save us. Crouch is the only one who acted soley with the clubs interests at heart! rant over.

Crouch saved us, if it wasn't for him we would been gone ages before dear old Markus came in.
Remembering reading the accounts at the end Crouch lost 2.8 mil from his time with saints, Lowe made just under 2mil.
    Says it all really.

Crouch, to his credit, was with us at the end and contributed crucial money to save us but some of the reason the financial worries came to a head at the end of that season was the excessive wages paid to some players when we, under his stewardship, aimed for promotion and ultimately fell in the play-offs.

Lowe was just an utter cock though.

Not at all. Empathy is for the wise.

EDIT: In previous posts on this thread, I have not singled out Leon Crouch for praise. I realise that in some people's minds, he might be included in the Lowe & Co scenario. I certainly don't include him. To me he was/is an honourable man who only wanted what was best for the club. I'm sure he is very happy with the current owners.
