Yep, & him & Mick Jones lived the hard way in squats & ****e like that. Nee rock star life for those boys, . Totally wrong about the clash lads.
Morrissy was as soft as Dianas butt the lady he criticised but he was a brilliant singer, especially live and Johnny Marrr was up there with the best..
Strummer , son of a diplomat just playing at been working class always had daddys money to fall back on if it went tits up. Whats this morrissey is soft about anyway I never said he was a 'hard man, like check tiote pmsl' just that I like his music.
You & me have started getting on lad. Let's not spoil things. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yhkwj85VzcE
Haven't read my thread through but I can say that Morrissey is one of the brightest lads Iv'e ever met, shy, curt and a giggler once he gets talking. Very intelligent and his lyrics show that. Johnny Marr on the other hand is a ****ing legend simply for creating his guitar sound and how to use a plectrum
My apologies Billy. After all it's just music, a purely subjective matter depending on one's personal taste. The self appointed music police tell me that I can't like songs by Dollar, Tears for Fears or Seasons in the Sun by terry jacks but they can all fck off I'll listen to what I want.
Guns N Roses, Pink Floyd (I went to see Roger Waters The Wall last year!), AC/DC, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, a bit of Dire Straits as well. Also, if nobody's heard of The Black Keys...
The Album UP from 2001, start there and then back track his past to where he is now. The album UP is probably one of the best albums I have ever heard for sensuality & genius but I will let you be the judge. Solsbury hill is a Gabriel Classic so try U-Tube. If you ever want any of his stuff then PM me with your email and I'll send
I!m very intolerant when it comes to music and hate most of the artists mentioned on here apart from The Jam who are one of my all time favourites Going to see Elvis Costello on Friday and have it on good authority he's going to play my favourite song of his which is Tramp the Dirt Down - too technically inept to add it here but it's on you tube if you want to listen
I'm still very much stuck in the music of my youth, mainly 70/80's rock bands. Glad to see many of them are still going. In the last couple of years I've seen Schenker, UFO, Rush, and Scorpions all of who I was a big fan of in my teens. Other stuff from back then that I like is very predictable, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin etc. Other than that, I liked the grunge scene, particularly Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots. After that there's been Radiohead, Travis, Stereophonics, Biffy, stuff like that. Currently listening to Psychedelic Furs, as I bought tickets last week for their gig in July. Haven't listened to their stuff in ages, and I'd forgotten just how good they were (and hopefully still are). Last saw then in 86. Particular dislikes are dance music (particularly when they take a song I like that's got great lyrics, and just repeat 1 line of it over and over, bastards), and anything by "somebody featuring somebody else" or "DJ whatever". Oh, and for Gabriel fans I noticed he's playing Hop Farm Festival (http://hopfarmfestival.com). The Furs are there too, but different day. Lots of other good bands too (Stranglers, Bob Dylan, Maximo Park, Gary Numan, Patti Smith, Richard Ashcroft, Suede) and some good comedians.
Time to introduce you Brits to some good ol' Aussie music. Some old ones here, but they are the best. Not saying all music is good that comes out from the land down under... (apart from the top one there Comm). Just like in the UK you have given us One Direction, Arctic Monkeys, and The Cheeky Girls...
Cheeky girls.....the embarrassment... UK is the pits for boy bands......i just don't hear of any decent bands these days.... What happened to the likes of Guns n Roses.....here one day, the next? just seemed to dissapear... Plus throughout this thread, not many bands have been mentioned who i personally thought were much cop....maybe Cest mentioning The Jam was a decent shout.
