I could live with 5 places, be upset at 10... but having the whole session nulled is harsh.

I felt pretty turned off by F1 because of Bahrain, this has brought the sport a whole lot of a very different kind of attention although, as usual, at the expense of the sport itself.

Obviously McLaren did something that hasn't been relayed to the press, maybe it's because this isn't a first offence. They did it in Canada a few years back, got reprimanded then, this is the FIA stamping it's authority on the sport perhaps?

No. I'm saying they saw a perfect opportunity to throw the kitchen sink at McLaren, which leaves Alonso in a good position to win his home GP, which will then see cash strapped folks in Spain parting with their hard earned cash to attend future venues.

Makes sense if all you care about is cash. Lucky though, Bernie has only the integrity of the sport at heart.

It wasn't his fault though, it's the car design, the metals fused at high heat, making it hard to remove the wheelnut. Even He-Man would have had a tough time getting the wheel off. If a similar occurence were to happen tomorrow, would McLaren fire the replacement guy, or finally admit the idea is flawed.

Bernie doesn't run the FIA. And anyway, Bernie would leave Hamilton up the front, as him battling with Alonso is good for revenue.

you miss the gist of my original sarcasm sgt - i know you are not blaming alonso for anything ,

but when mclaren fluck up or worse cheat they have nobody to blame except themselves , agree with you about alonso , he has been the class driver since the season began , a class act of the highest calibre ,

McLaren are their own worst enemy sometimes. I can't argue with that. But punishment should be distributed evenly. This one is draconian.

Surely hampering Hamilton (one of the most popular drivers amongst fans across the world) would hurt the revenue generated for FOM by the GP? All for a result that isn't guaranteed? Bernie isn't that stupid.

I wouldn't trust him either, but the fact is he stands to make more money with Hamilton doing well, than he does with Hamilton at the back.

I think he stands to make a lot more if Alonso brings it home in #1... which he has a very good chance of doing now. Vettel, Webber, Button and Hamilton are all going to have busy days tomorrow.

maybe mclaren"s very suspect past is catching up with them , knowing what we all know about mclaren if you were a steward or the FIA would you trust them to play fair anymore ?

personally i would"nt trust mclaren as far as i could throw them ,

That is probably the reasoning behind the punishment given today, it all comes down to canadian gp of 2010. Accidental or not, the FIA will look upon past records and make a call based on the Team's past activities. Today could well have been an honest mistake, but 2010 hurt them.
