I know I might be upsetting certain posters with this view, but regardless of peoples religious viewpoints, I can't for the life of me see how the concept of a pope fits in with anyones belief in God...
Well MrRAW, a can of worms is opened. Some of you know, most don't, that I am a spiritualist so Popes and head of the C of E are not my thing and the traditional God figure does not fit. All that said I find my belief strange and unexplainable, I found it, like most spiritualist do, in a time of upset and anger in my life and it gives me peace and a calm. It matters not what others think and I don't peach or even talk about it, its for me and it serves a purpose for me. Faith, religion and church are fine by me, its what some people do in the name of them that causes the bother.
Although I don't class myself as a spiritualist, and if I'm being honest it is a subject area which I have never really looked into. However, I do respect the fact that your beliefs appear to have come from your life experiences and from within, rather than you being told by a figure head or by man-written books what you should believe in.
I was brought up C of E and was confirmed at age, cant remember but it was all very silly. I attended church and was confirmed because I was made to, it meant nothing to me. I worked for a time with a chap who was a Mormon, could not understand his faith but I wished I had it, it gave him peace. I don't think you find a faith, it either finds you or it doesn't.
