Could you imagine McLaren underfuelling Ayrton Senna as he set off for a pole lap? There would be hell to pay. I disliked Ron, but the guy knew what he was doing.

Its pretty tough to not find enough fuel in the tank for a sample because of the shape of the drum, i just dont understand stopping the car unless a technical problem led to this decision. Which will mean no penalty.

3 repremands can add up to 10 place grid penalty and the season is long so this is by no means a light penalty should it happen.

On a seperate note why are cars allowed to stop on track directly after a race but not in qualifying? Thats another thing the FIA need to look at because the same rules should apply to both.

    Hi
    Genji.
Are you sure you want me to answer this?
It may make a mountain out of a mole-hill and I am not taking sides, but this was clearly inferred during the discussion.

It was the teams that screwed up then. The team may also have screwed up now. therefore, not Hamilton's fault as suggested.

Teams fault, yes, penalty, if rules broken then yes, but Hamilton's personal fault? No!

I hope you won't mind me saying this seems a little unfair, since ASChris initial objection was to the inference that Hamilton was personally at fault, rather than his team. Furthermore, he has already acknowledged that if his team are found to be worthy of punishment, Hamilton will (correctly) be punished.

Would seem fair as that woudl put him 6th, which is where he would be if the disallowed his fastest time and took his other timed lap from earlier in Q3.

Anything more would not be right as he made it through Q1 & Q2 and set a legit time in Q3 before all this happened which would have stood had he not done a second run.

Anything more would not be proportional to the offence of having 1/2 litre too little fuel left to complete the lap and give the FIA 1 litre to take their sample from.

It's not really his fault though. He should just have the offending lap/time deleted, and have to use his previous time instead.

No. Unfortunately it involves numerous posts, which would need to be presented here.

(I did say it will make a mountain out of it :)).

McLaren declining to give explanation for reason Lewis was told to stop: but says FIA took 1.3-litre fuel sample. Full story soon

So McLaren possibly lying as well?

Is that just not giving a reason to the press, or the FIA?

Depends how you interpret Noble's post I guess.

I think the tweets about Whitmarsh refusing to confirm one thing or another apply to media questions:

Lewis' pole currently under discussion by stewards. May yet be stripped if found not to have enough fuel in the car. McLaren say there was.

Yet 1.3L was not enough to get to the pits.

They need to bolster their management with someone with a bit of nous to keep on top of things like this.
