Unless the conditions suited the McLaren today, and didn't in practice. Lets hope it rains.

If Hamilton gets more than a reprimand it will A) be entertaining to watch Maldonado lead the race off and B) be wrong. Utterly wrong.

Two excellent laps. No idea how Pastor managed to get that Williams on the front row, it's such a handful. Pretty embarrassing for Button that he was eight tenths shy of him in Q2 in a car that looks much better.

Edit: Also, I wish Sky would show the full screen, people have paid a lot of money to see F1 coverage, not Georgie and Ant chatting next to a TV.

Sorry, if it was his first incident it would be wrong, but McLaren did this a few years ago and got a reprimand then. Punishment should be in order now, no more reprimands.

Reprimands are on a season-by-season basis. But thank you for citing a precedent, wasn't aware of that.

If that is the case then he shoud lose his fastest time.

What if they got the McLaren back to the pit and it was foudn to have had enough fuel in it, they were just being overly cautious? He didn;t run out of fuel, he was just told to pull over to avoid that situation from potentially happening. May make sod all difference if the rules require him to complete the lap, but would that mitigate the strength of any penalty to a reprimand?

I've done this quickly so allow a tolerance of about 3 kph. I was very surprised with Alonso's speed in those two high speed corners. It means Ferrari are losing a lot of time due to poor traction and balance.

I don't know what @F1grid is but it's a bit snide to tweet this, isn't it?

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh admits fuel shortage caused stop. Says a "technical problem led to that situation". Hoping for force majeure

Agreed. They can't turn a blind eye to it or it'll be happening every week. Q2 and Q3 will be delayed each week while the forklifts go round and collect all the cars that were on the verge of going out in the previous session. McLaren have clearly done this deliberately to gain an upper hand, they know exactly how much fuel they need for a run, nobody else ever stops short. The fact that with hindsight they gained nothing for it will only send out a stronger message. Harsh on Hamilton who personally has done nothing wrong, but it's his team who have broken the rules to give him an advantage.

One lap of fuel adds an extra tenth to the lap time, so Hamilton would have been on pole even without the fuel issue. However, McLaren ****ed up big time, and Hamilton will probably get a five place grid penalty.

Not sure if I done the pole in time because I can't remember but I would have said Hamilton (I always do <laugh>) Let's hope there's not some massive pile-up involving him at the start.

If Lewis wasn't a title fighter I would say give the ****ing driver a DSQ and not allow him to race that weekend and slap a 1 million fine on McLaren for punishment.

Sorry but BS it was accident, how come you dont see others at the front end have these issues after qualifying?

    Ted Kravitz‏@tedkravitz

Hamilton's car had 1.3 litres of fuel remaining in tank after he stopped. You need 1lt for FIA sample and approx 2lt for in lap.

What technical issues can cause a car to run out of fuel? Surely telemetry would have told them that LH's car was under-fueled?

So McLaren have again ****ed up another potential race winning situation for one of their drivers.

How long can this go on before heads roll? When Ron Dennis was in charge, even before 2007 when F1 started in some people's eyes, Mclaren were a paragon of efficiency and ruthlessly stringent in how they prepared for racing. Since Whitmarsh has taken over, they have got very tardy about their preperation.
