Is underway and a good friend of mine has a dog in it. It's been injured so will be nursed through the first few rounds hopefully just scraping through. As the competition progresses he should get a lot fitter and stronger. The dog has run a time at the track that would have won three of the last four finals so he is no mug. He came through his first round heat finishing fourth and should qualify third in his heat this weekend. Hopefully he will then be getting fit enough to mount a real challenge. The dogs name is NEWTOWN SKIPTIPP and he is 125-1.
As a young bloke I spent some time in the industry, I had a ball. I was lucky enough to be close to a lot of the leading people in SE Queensland, so got to see some decent dogs, (none of which were mine) and know just how hard it is to win one of these G1 events. I wish him all the luck in the world.
Are William Hill barking mad. They now go a stand out 9-1 about TAYLORS SKY. Ok he wasnt his usual self in round one and he didnt set things alight when winning in round two but he will surely really start firing like the class act he is from here on in. He looks to have an easy passage through round three tonight and odds of 9-1 look great value. If you back him EW its a 1/4 odds 1,2,3,4 if they reach final. I cnnot see him not going all the way to the final, it's a no-brainer to me! Newtown Skiptipp did pick up a slight injury when eliminated in round two and will be "off" for a few weeks!
TAYLORS SKY through in what was a particularly rough heat. He overcame he hefty bump leaving the traps and then jinked nicely inside some first ben trouble. Still in it but needs to up his game from here on in. Hugely impressed by BUBBLY PHOENIX tonight. Youngest dog in the competition and looks a real class act.
It was QF night tonight and TAYLORS SKY ran second in his heat. His early zip still missing and he really needs to get his trapping boots on. The fantastic news however came after the heats when the semi final draw was made as follows; 1 Razldazl Rioga 2 Coolavanny Bert 3 Farloe Ironman 4 Judicial Ruling (m) 5 Bubbly Phoenix (w) 6 Razldazl Jayfkay (w) 2nd semi 1 Taylors Sky 2 Westmead Adonis 3 Razldazl Bugatti 4 Droopys Jet 5 Droopys Loner 6 Blonde Snapper (m) To have avoided Jayfkay, Phoenix, Bert and Rioga is quite simply bloody marvellous and the icing on the cake is to get drawn in the red box. Without counting too many chickens he is surely as good as in the final and anyone who took the 1,2,3,4 9-1 each way should be grinning from ear to ear right now. On a side note, BUBBLY PHOENIX literally fell out of the boxes tonight, took a hefty bump at the first and still recovered to qualify. This youngster is class and maybe this too early in his career but a huge prize beckons for this fella some point!
As big as 8/1 with Betvictor and as low as 9/2 2nd fav with Boylesports! Will leave alone for the benefit of others! When I follow a stick tip it ends up an NR!
Yes i did... PadPow now go 11/4 fav on Taylors Sky... 9/1 looks very, very good now... Cheers stick, fingers crossed for a goo return...
Final night at Wimbledon this Saturday and here is the RP's Jim Cremin's run down of the finalists; 1 Farloe Ironman 3/1 Owners Dusted Chicken Partnership, trained by Matt Dartnall No dog looked more ready to run for his life in the semis that the Ironman, the problem here is can he break from red? He has run into form at exactly the right time, his semi time was startling – but that was from midfield. Trap one is tricky. 2 Coolavanny Bert 5/2 Owned and trained by John Gardner Perhaps the third quick run was a factor in a less sharper start in the semis, but the youngest finalist showed fire and determination to qualify and he looks capable of leading on the inside (IF red doesn’t!). He has struck me throughout as the best balanced dog in the entire field. 3 Westmead Adonis 10/1 (from initial 12/1) Owned by Larry O’Rourke snr, trained by Nick Savva He might not have won a round of the Derby, but he has caught the eye with a series of gallant performances and all he needs is a break to step up a gear. His owner has always been lucky too, and his trainer is as professional as they come – with four recent Derby champions. No forlorn hope. 4 Taylors Sky 5/2 Owned by Steve and Becki Taylor, trained by Charlie Lister OBE Ran his best race in this year’s Derby in the semis and the defending champ is another approaching peak form at the right moment. Trap four is hardly helpful, but this powerful dog is more than capable of handling it and holds a fantastic chance in the hands of the sport’s most successful trainer. 5 Judicial Ruling (m) 5/1 Owned by Pat Daly, trained by Michael O’Donovan (Ireland) As the first middle seed out, under the rules up until last month he’d have gone into six, which would have seemed perfect. But it’s all about the break and if he comes away (as he did from four in the second round), he could yet put this field to the sword. It feels weird that he’s Ireland’s only representative; maybe it’s his year. 6 Blonde Snapper (m) 6/1 Owned by Mark Currell, trained by Mark Wallis He handled the week’s three quick runs in splendid style and from six has far more than the proverbial puncher’s chance. If he leads, he will take catching – proven by his Golden Sprint win at Romford, but does face a hazard with Judicial Ruling on his inside. Theoretically the week’s rest will do him good and he will go well. No prizes for guessing which dog I think will win.
I like the outsider. I picked him in the semi and was amazed to discover he qualified after being so far behind. He has done a fast time so if getting off to a decent start should be running into a place.
Finally, in the Final, Taylors Sky showed his trapping ability. Pinging the boxes and getting out clear a length to the good over the three railers inside him. Going to the first bend only five and six were nearly level with him. Then the two dog, Coolvanny Bert, found his stride and attemted a suicidal dive up Taylors inside which resulted in his head banging into Taylors hind quarters knocking him sideways into the five, Judiial Ruling. How Taylors Sky managed to stay on his feet is a mystery to me but with completely clear runs the six, Blonde Snapper and one, Farloe Ireman had slipped through and were gone beyond recall. Taylors tried valiantly to make up lost ground but Coolvanny Bert railed and cut him off again approaching bend three. Up front Blonde Snapper quickened from the front and comfortably had Farloe's measure. Taylors Sky sprinted up the straight failing only by a short head to snatch third leaving his supporters in no doubt that victory would have been assured with a clear run. As it was it was good enough for myself as my each way punt paid four places when I placed the bet but a win would have been so much more profitable.
