When we finished 4th, two seasons ago, we didn't have VDV, Parker or Adebayor, and Modric was out injured for 5 months. THudd was a colossus for us, that season, as was Gomes (our third-choice keeper). We have shown, time and time again, that we can withstand the ravages of injuries, unlike other sides. Only the blind, biased and bitter fail to see or understand this fact.
LIDL, your readiness to criticise our squad depth is frankly absurd considering the short comings of the United squad in a number of positions. Your reserves at full back have far less experience than ours, and your midfield replacements are frankly embarrassing (Anderson, for example, would struggle to get into many Premiership 1st XIs), the only area where you have real strength is up front.
your dreaming, gaf 71 Modric going nowhere.vdv over his injury's king knee does'nt give out And ade is a season long lone,if he goes back after that we'll have someone else in by then
I'm inclined to agree with LIDL, our backup isn't ideal. Rose can cover left back and left wing but not at the sametime, obviously, and he's still learning the left back role really so whilst I'm happy with the backup I wouldn't say we're particularly strong there. We obviously don't have anyone quite like Adebayor and Pav is the only one that has shown any signs of being able to work with VDV but he'll soon be off. Kranjcar could be seen as backup for VDV but Defoe is preffered when VDV is out and his lack of pace and lack of mobility make him a poor candidate for either wing in the style we play, Modric played out on the left when we got 4th but our style of football has changed since then and it's hard to argue he's not more effective in midfield.
We could do with a little bit of fine tuning in January, for me. If we could get rid of some dead wood, like Dos Santos and Pavlyuchenko, who clearly don't want to be there and replace them with maybe Hoilett and Olic, that'd be a great start. I'd also look to bring in proper cover for Assou-Ekotto and loan out Rose for the rest of the season, to someone who'll play him at left-back. Maynor Figueroa's contract at Wigan is up in the summer, so we could probably nick him on the cheap. Rodallega's in the same position, but his goalscoring form is very dry at the moment. Other players who may need to be addressed are Gomes, Bassong and Corluka. If they're all happy to stay and compete for their places, then great. If not, then they may need to be moved on and replaced, even temporarily.
Quite right YV, most top teams afford 1 or 2 players free roles to do their best work, its so obvious that shackled to do a job in a position, is going to be detrimental, almost a waste of time. Regarding the media/pundits view of the squad ie. brilliant!...none of us would be talking like this if it were that great! I've always thought we had too many square pegs, so that when there chance does come, its still a round hole for them. (No disgraceful remarks about the last few words please! )
They are just like everone else, they know Spurs will crumble and blame it on Pizza or Lasange or whatever other god awful excuse they can up with.
I think a lot of it could be from being written off so often in the position we're in, it's the way of biting back. Personally I like being written off, I was quick to write off Spurs and Arsenal at the bad starts to the season...look where that got me.
The fine art of wummery is abused, like a defiled nun, when ever Mickey Mousers post on our board. Shameful, and very, very poor.
At least we have the balls to appear on your board, come over some time and have a chat.....oh no you can't can you, you're banned.
