Do you reckon this is why the Millwall fans are so well behaved when they come to Pompey? Still amuses me to see the helicopters and all the police on duty when Millwall pay us a visit.
HSB was indeed very potent! As said, Fullers still make it, but up in Chiswick, and with Thames estuary water instead of the lovely horndean spring water. Unfortunately Gales will never be the same now - so onto the next ones! I recommend a lot of the Irving beers - Frigate is a beuatiful drop! Oakleaf over in Gosport has some nice ones also. When me and the wife ran the Inn on the beach on hayling a few years ago, these two breweries were very popular! If you can afford the taxi, a trip up to the Hogs Back brewery at guildford is well worth the visit......a shame I dont remember the end of the tour really!
It seems that we have drifted off-topic a little, and the thread was not actually "Fratton Parks 50 fascinating pints", so back we come. A little known curiosity for you amateur lexicographers out there is that "FrattonparkkrapnottarF" is a Palindrome! Straight up. Checked it out and everything!
Oh, I am sorry. Didn't mean to scare you! I am an elihphile myself, but these phobias are a real problem. Thank goodness you don't suffer from Autodysomophobia or kakorrhaphiophobia, or a trip to Fratton might be quite impossible! Like most Saints fans, I am hoping not to develop bathophobia next season.
Anyone ever had a pint or two of 'Old Roger'? I had a few in the 'Old Jerusalem' pub in Nottingham once when in the City to watch County play Pompey, ended up rolling around outside on the grass mumbling incoherently, nothing new there then!....... damn good pint that was!...............
'Old Roger' sounds like a character from "Monty Python" - someone who owns a dead parrot, or is likely to have a "silly walk"
Looking a bit more on the bright side of life......... "welease Wodger" Don't like to ask how much was weleased as SB3 rolled around mumbling incoherently
If you are that worried about phobias, channon, do keep away from Rickie Lambert, or you will "catch" that terrible incurable fear of pies, known commonly as Ginsterphobia - as soon as Rickie sees a pie, he has to eat it immediately
Well we've covered some Portsmouth beers, Pompey Royal, HSB etc; Is there a famous Southampton Bitter?
I found one called Deckchair Ale, from the Titanic Brewery, but to my disappointment it's not brewed in Southampton but in Stoke on Trent!
I found one although there does seem to be a typo........... http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/brooklyn-summer-ale/63840/
I'm not bitter; still quaffing down the champers. In the concourses at SMS they sell Saints Ale. At something like 3.6%, if you were a smoker you wouldn't even taste it. I'd probably describe it as 'lighthouse beer' - blinking near water. Mind you, if it stops the Lordshill and Shirley masses from getting 'nawty' then that can't be a bad thing... By the way, I am currently in Vienna at the moment and having a lovely time. Just thought I would pop in and say hello
