If I had lived in the 19th and early 20th century I would have been a socialist fighting for workers and womens rights, but Margaret Thatcher was elected because the unions were misusing their power and making peoples lives a misery. That was why she had so much support. She was the right person at the right time. History will deal kindly with her and she will be regarded as one of our great prime ministers.

When I came back from the Barnsley game, I shared the train with a load of Barnsley coal miners and ex-miners. They would have had problems with this view. So would I. I know where you are coming from and as an ex-union official I recognise the charge, but she forged the ultra-materialistic naff society we now enjoy.

Of course she wasn't responsible for the death of 6m Jews and 4m others so I'll vote for Adolf. He was the right man for the time according to a lot of old Germans even today. I doubt history will treat him kindly.

Yeah they've messed it up thankfully. If you haven't seen it, I advise watching Paxman's interview with Louis Saha. He talks about the worrying number of people in France voting for the National Front.

Speaking as someone who lived through the 80s, I know that Thatcher caused me infinately more personal misery than the Unions ever did, I think that 3 million others on the dole at that time would agree with me... The TGWU helped me to save my job after I was wrongfully dismissed by an unscrupulous employer.

Highest unemployment since the 1930's (3.5 million)
    Record inflation (18%)
VAT increase from 8% to 17.5%
    Crime rates doubled
The demonisation of minority groups (such as single mothers and those on benefits etc), a particularly nasty piece of Tory propaganda
A totally avoidable Falklands war costing the lives of hundreds of British soldiers
The privatisation programme for the utilities for which we are all counting the cost of now
Not to mention the Poll Tax and the loss of Britain's industrial base

The best thing to happen to the UK in a long time? Can't wait for someone of her ilk to show up again.

Agreed - I really resented how she trialled the Poll Tax out on Scotland.

Not to mention the p*ssing away of Britain's legacy of North Sea oil to pay for the painful and cynical policy of wrecking British industry in paying of benefits for the unemployed and forcing people into low paid jobs.

He was a great public speaker who came to power at the right time as Germany was in turmoil. When he first came to power his policies were no where near the severity they ended up at.

Mein Kampf is a very dull read, and being a History student i was forced to trawl through it. If you survive boredom long enough to reach anything worthwhile, then you clearly aren't sane enough to understand how extreme his policies were?

With regards to the 'Who would hate Michael Wilde?' Question. This is a man who came along and ousted Rupert Lowe whilst heavily criticizing him, before 'joining forces' with the very same man to oust Leon Crouch and oversee some of the stranger financial policies ever seen at a football club.

So you don't mind if the person that is in charge of running our country is an utter c*nt as long as they admit to being an utter c*nt, correct?

He came to power because Germany was in turmoil. The German people were far more inclined to vote for a more extreme party because of it and the Nazi party was the obvious choice for them, mainly down to Hitler's ability to excite and empassion crowds.
