This is great news for us, he's been playing football non-stop for the last 2 years, he's now having a good earned rest and hopefully he'll come back stronger next season.

Fergie should have no power to make this decision. I think its terrible.

Bellamy has a permanent knee injury, and is just important to us as Hernandez. But Dalglish wont stop him going to the games. I'd be honored to see him in team gb to.

Thought he'd only played about 20 times this season?
Why would he need such a long rest?

Ryan Giggs got the longest rest of all time during his international career, pity he was made to deprive the Welsh football support of his skills.

Thought that was Jamie "I don't want to play right back <wah>" Carragher? Tho' I suppose the only thing he deprived England of was a reliable source of own goals...

Not really. He played 16 years for Wales. That's longer than Speed, Hughes, Saunders and Bellamy, and the same amount of time as Rush. He also played longer at the top level than any of those. Hard to see what else he could have done for Wales, unless you're criticising the others for also retiring too early?

Maybe be needs a rest because he played a full season then went to the world cup, then played another season and went to the Gold cup, then played another season and they want him at the Olympics... and I think there's another Gold cup next year. Pretty obvious why he might need a rest.

My opinon is that if Chicarito really. wants to play then we shouldn't stop him, however i respect the decision since he has definately looked burn out this season.

    1. Shoulda Woulda Coulda... Fact is Fergie does have the power to influence these decisions, because people respect his opinions and know that he is not a deluded clown (unlike certain other managers).

    2. Of course Bellamy has a permanent knee injury. Do you know how much pressure there is on his knees every time he has to change direction and chase the ball when Carroll tries to control it and it powers off into a random direction? Or when Gerrard tries Hollywood passes and Bellamy has to try & keep the ball in play? He's not young, you know...

Played longer, yet fewer games than all of them. He's also been very lucky not to have many injuries like the others. I was always disappointed that he seemed a little disinterested at times, and missed quite a few games because of Fergie. It's not to do with him retiring early.

Fergie also released him late often for international duty, whilst at the same time releasing English players with no problems.
