Being a ROI fan doesn't mean he hates NI He just got the chance to play for his preferred nation I'm sure if he didn't he still would have played as well for NI It's up to your FA to make playing for NI as appealing as playing for ROI or see this continue
If I was running a club there'd be a complete ban on players using Twatter. They're too thick and uneducated in the main, and it just results in emotional responses. I just don't see the need for it and it only seems to massage their already massive egos. I'm all for players having more contact with the public but I'd have an official club one and that's all. I personally couldn't give two ****s what some overpaid twat has on his toast in the morning, or any other subject they choose to cover. I just want them turning up on match day. But fans and players seem to like it so why not.
McClean should be playing for NI. But the rules allow him to choose, so he's done nowt wrong essentially.
Just a personal opinion. I think people should represent the country they are born in where possible. I accept there are exceptions to the rule like when they've moved to a country at a very young age and its basically all they know. But people like McClean, KP in cricket who are just picking and choosing a country to represent, I don't see the need for it and believe its open to any amount of abuse.
He was born in Ireland and holds Irish citizenship. His passport is issued from Dublin. Nothing to do with football rules, it's an international agreement that gives him those rights.
While there are two seperate international teams, I believe you should represent the one you were born in. He was born in Derry, Northern Ireland.
He is entitled to Irish or British citizenship or both. James chose Irish. He now plays for the Irish football team.
As I have already said under the rules he has done nothing wrong. Doesn't mean I agree with the rules though. I just don't feel strongly enough about it to really give a ****.
That's the point exactly. They use the N.I youth teams for years and then ditch them. I'm sure there will have to be some sort of compensation scheme put in place or else it will just get worse.
Only recently have they changed the rules in club football were clubs get compensation if a young player leaves. I'm sure this practice will work it's way into international football soon. It's only fair.
