Massa comes wading in to (sort of) back Petrov up (well not really).

Felipe Massa questions value of Mugello's F1 test

I agree with massa at the end. They should restore the 4 tests in the winter as it did seem too short. They should add a 5th test but between rounds 10 and 11 not at the beginning. we have had to long intervals between GPs already!

As for Mugello, it is ideal because its not similar to most tracks. I also think a 2nd young drivers test should be added

I'm of the opinion that the in season tests should be young drivers tests. I also think the term young should be a rule, nothing to excessive, just under 25.

Two in season young driver tests imediatley after a GP (Mon-Wed) in a 2+ week gap shouldn't be too much hassle surely.

I think Massa's probably right in general terms (more time before the season must be better for getting the cars ready for the first race) but in Ferrari's specific case, as Alonso pointed out in the press conference, the problems they found in Jerez compromised the rest of winter testing. I'm not sure that having an extra test before the season while carrying that knock-on effect would have been as beneficial as having time to assess the data, collect additional data from actual race conditions, and then to develop potential solutions and test them as they had the opportunity to in Mugello. They probably still would have floundered in that last additional pre-season test (as would other teams in a similar position) while the McLarens and Lotuses happily worked through their planned programme or brought in further developments. Theoretically, Ferrari might have arrived in Australia in slightly better shape but in Spain they may be worse of than they are now.

I say theoretically because Alonso they didn't see much of an improvement in Mugello.

Narain Cucumberkayen could be about to lose his seat again before the end of the season. He is currently falling short of funds for his drive.

I can see the spanish Red Bull backed Carlos Sainz Jr taking his place ala Ricciardo.

Surely Clos? None of the other young drivers are close enough to F1 at the moment. Ricciardo had had a couple of goes in a Red Bull.

I don't think Sainz is ready for F1, he's only just started racing in F3!! But I do get your point and he could/might/maybe future F1 potential- he certainly has a chance of emulating Red Bull backed Carlin British F3 champions Alguersuari, Ricciardo and Vergne.

He seems to be faffing between Formula Renault (big boys) and GP2. I think he's all in with GP2 this year but with a so-so team.

He's also in the World Endurance Championship and he's actually very good at it, he would of won the Spa 6 hour if he didn't get a drive through.

If you thought F1 stewards were strict, the WEC stewards make them look like pussies.
