Cheers Gas-man...... We going to enjoy every game and we take highs and lows of League One. Whats going to be a High for me is going to stadiums like Coventry and Portmouth aka if still in business!!!!! Its going to be hard but I think that with the Owner that we have and the Manager whole got the experience in this league, we will be ok..... I like us to be like Stevenage in a way, Been out of the non-league for a short while and then promoted into League One and when everyone had them down to come back down after one year..... There hold they own and the following year, pushing for play-offs. well done Stevenage, you are a club that nevers says No and never gives up
I believe it would be the wrong approach to start splashing out big money on players. I believe we have the basis of a team that can more than hold its own in League 1. Strengthening should be a mixture of experienced loan players. Younger signings with potential and perhaps the odd permanent older experienced player.
I agree, we already have a squad of players who are capable of L1 mid-tablism. A couple of good signings here & there & you never know?! But IMO we certainly do not need a complete over overhaul.. FS!
strangely i agree with whatshrew and jenny! and i am mighty certain the chairman and his multi combination lock wallet will agree. if we can persuade jamie to stay i would like to see someone else of quality up front fs,coys, bots, aab, ctrab aj
Surely, With the way the club is run and all the nice comments we have had of other Managers and Players from League 2 and putting Shrewsbury on the map.....Do you think that we can compete in getting some big names to this club? I hate to see us become like the likes of Wycombe/Exeter/Chesterfield & Rochdale in which they can only hold it together for a season or two in League One. Money talks and you only have to look at Man City to see that, I know that we will never be in that sort of league when it comes to money but for a club that was re born nearly 10 years ago when we got relagated to the non league and bounced straight back after one season...... I believe that we come a long way. So, Mr RW....... Im not the only one that knows that after a cracking Home gates this season that we are clearly in the black and more then likely, one of the profit clubs in the league. Yes, Bradford gets 12,000 plus at home gates but when you are selling tickets for £1 - £5 then you know that its not much of a business when it comes to profit. Swindon are another case but I heard that the manager is on Championship salary with 4 players on over £6000 a week????? I looking forward in seeing us compete and I can say that we can hold our own with the players we have got but it would be nice to bring in a goal scorer to player upfront with Collins to bang them in. I am 100% behind Mr T and Mr RW and look forward in the next coming months
A goalscorer? To rub salt in the wounds we could poach 25-goal Stuart Beavon from the relegated wobblers. Proven in League One obviously. As for Daniels, I believe he's at Sarfend but should they not win the play offs we'd clearly have more appeal. And Jamo would be one GK who's name i'd get printed! Hazy times lads, the season's not even over yet!
Wycombe would want in the region of 500k for Beavon, apparently. Watched by Championship clubs frequently.
DiamondGeezer, your quote "Swindon are another case but I heard that the manager is on Championship salary with 4 players on over £6000 a week?????" im afraid you must be plucking figures out of the air, we have a tight wage budget here at Swindon. I can safely say we do not have any players on that sort of wage here. We may have a couple of very rich men on our board (ranked 40 and 29 on the football rich list) but they are not rich by giving out big pay packets, as for PDC he is worth every penny that he earns , he is not a 9-5 man but eats drinks and sweats blood for our club , doing a 18 hour day is not unusual for him. Anyway congrats from the Oldest and bigger STFC to our little salop friends on your promotion , looking forward to our matches next season.
diamond you mentioned clubs who could noy hold it together for a couple of years in L1. take the wobblers they could not hold it together full stop and went up last may totally unfit for purpose and at our expense. i happen to think our season will prove of mighy use to us in our return to L1 thank you redjed for your best wishes. i always thought the creepies and rotties were/are the money bags. anyway with or without good luck next season. beating man utd, wolves, derby, swansea and narrowly losing at the emirates, tells us something about the strength of our squad and management. we could do with some similar hard tests in july
Redjed thanks for the feedback, let's hope we both happily secure at least midtable stability next seadon, I might even come to the away match as I used to live in Malmesbury for a couple of years and the Smoking Dog needs a visit. Btw accidently clicked on 'dislike' when clicking on the thumbs up, serves me right using a phone to surf.
hi matster, when i lived near badminton, one of the pubs i used was the bull just outside malmesbury and a wadsworths or freehouse from memory. there were some nice pubs in sherston and luckington as well, still this does not get us into L1 playoffs!
Matster, lol so you are a bit of a moonraker then , i live in Cirencester, were you working in the area then for a couple of years? Hope you still chewing the corn and wearing your floppy hat and carring your rake , lmao
I was another temporary son of Wiltshire, but North West Wilts - in fact Bath, as good as. Red Lion in Lacock and the magnificent Two Pigs in Corsham were regular haunts. The legendary Dickie Doyle had a sign up in the Two Pigs saying "our lager is crap" and refused to recognise lager as a worthwhile drink; the taps were labelled "strong crap" and "weak crap". Glorious pub. Didn't bother with the southern jesse STFC when I lived there though. Occasionally, Bath City or, ahem, the Gas (don't tell Chris) caught my attention at Twerton Park. Moving to Shropshire taught me that there's only one true STFC, as we all know.
latest vibes are that wroe, cjs and collins may be on their way. they are all wanted elsewhere and we have only offered 1 year deals. would you stay for 1 year?
shrewd my wiltshire home is half a mile from the 2 pigs! i am only temporary down in devon. 10years so far!
