Just for a bit of fun I was just wondering what teams out there my fellow Jacks like or dislike for any strange, weird or wonderful reasons. Now please try and remember this is just a bit of fun and let's try not to include the obvious. Anyone who picks Cardiff City, Leeds United etc can go to the naughty corner of the class. I'll get the ball rolling by saying that I have a soft spot for this weekend's visitors Liverpool because when we went there in November, outside the ground we were sitting down having a pint in the drink area just down the road from the away fans entrance. Out of the blue a Liverpool fan came up to my son, asked him if this was his first visit to Anfield (it was), handed him a coke and a pie ! He said "son this is a Scouse pie, you must try one and it's on me", ruffled his hair, gave us a thumbs up and walked off saying "all the best lads". A team I don't like is Port Vale because whenever I've been it's always been cold and wet but also they sold the worst food in any ground I've been in. Even worse than the Vetch warm bag, cold pasties. There see how easy it was, no mention of the obvious. Cardiff posters welcome too !
I don't like Derby very much because I find their fans are knobs and they assaulted Dorus, but some measure of revenge with Pintado up there. I like Chester fans, a small team but one who don't exist anymore, well one raises from the ashes. And the Reading fans were class last season in the play off final, so happy they have come up this season their manager is a real humble guy.
The stewards were knobs in Derby too, yes I'm pleased Reading are up they were good sports as you said Valley.
My two favorite teams are ... #1 Swansea ... #2 Anyone playing Manchester United in League , League Cup & FA Cup!!
Soft spot for Everton, Spurs, Southampton, Sheff Wed (don't know why, probably cos I grew up in the 80s) Dislike Liverpool, Anyone Neil Warnock manages
Apart from the obvious...never liked Carlisle. Always gave us a damn good kicking. Dirtiest team ever. In the Prem...nobody really, though I really don't like Stoke's style of play, but even then it's nothing personal. Any team that relies on long throws and a tall striker doesn't belong in the best league in the world. Just my opinion.
I have a soft spot for all those clubs that spent years floundering around leagues 1 and 2 before finally dropping out of the Football League in to obscurity. Teams like Halifax, Bradford Park Avenue, Newport County and Chester to name but a few. Think what it must be like to be a die hard supporter of one of those sides; and we think we've seen hard times! Then of course you have the success comeback clubs such as Aldershot and Accrington Stanley. In short, all of the above are my likes. My dislikes are any club whose supporters give off an aura of " we should be in a higher league because our history entitles us". Prime examples are Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.
As a kid, back in the day. I'm talking of the old bus station, where we stood in line whilst the jobs from the away teams walked past on the way to the railway station, stopped threw stones and caused chaos. From those days I hated Millwall, West Ham and Leeds. As I grew older I'd follow anybody playing for a Welsh Team against the old enemy (England), then any team playing the old enemy. Today I am still the same, rather more Swansea then Wrexham, Newport, Merthyr and the rest of the Welsh league. I will not go to a Millwall, West Ham or Leeds game out of what happened above. Had a great time in Newcastle, sang our hearts out. Had nothing to do with all the beers after climbing all those steps.......... Great time in the bars afterwards, always a great place to go back to. Went to Everton, never never again. Had a ticket with my daughter in the Everton crowd. The amount of abuse ............ and towards their own players!!!!! Not welcome in any of the local pubs. Went to Wembley, Oh What A Day!!!! Would do that every year if we could guarantee the win every time. What an atmosphere, what a crowd - More of the same please but on Saturday against Liverpool. Rock On Elvis !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S. Said Leeds twice, but ask me what league they are in!!! HA! HA!
Any team that actually tries to play football,is O.K. with me. So that would include the likes of Arsenal;Spurs';Liverpool under Shankly and Paisley;Brian Clough's Derby and Forest;Man City when they had Bell,Summerbee,Lee,etc.;Villa due to connections in Brum;Cup giantkillers, viz,Hereford;Wrexham;Yeovil;Swindon, and too many others to list. I've got a real soft spot for Leyton Orient. Many years ago I worked with a chap who was a real passionate fan of The O's. His enthusiasm was infectious, and we had really good banter together. Then he was tragically killed in a head on collision on his way back to the office. I think of him a lot, especially during the football season, and follow The O's in his memory. Another reason to follow them is Bob Mills,he's a comedian who appears regularly on Fighting Talk,Radio 5.and he's excruciatingly funny. He may well be the owner,or Director,of the Club. Teams I don't relate to,Man Utd.;the current Man. City;Chelsea.
I like Blackpool as well, always have a great time when I go up there, even when we don't play each other
dont hate any team to be honest. they are only doing what we are doing at the end of the day so why hate some other team...I dont get it....Hate is a strong word and for what?. I dont like some things about other clubs..for example travelling all the way to carlisle and newcastle, travelling with bubble matches which was my choice that i wont do anymore, i dont like a number of things that effect me directly with other clubs but no way do i hate any club that are doing what we do and that is running a football club.....
Dai, I never said hate, only dislike., and as you've said you've named a few dislikes bit only because of the trip to get there. Newcastle takes forever but when you get there their fans are great.
Dilli, i used to quite like Liverpool but after this years antics by Dalgleish and co. I want them to lose every game. I have always liked Charlton for some reason. Saw them as a sinilar sized club to us and loved how they got to the PL, having left and returned to their ground. Always look for Accrington Stanley result. Sides i don't like. Newcastle, hate how they think they are the most passionate fans, more than anyone else. F***ing rubbish they are no more special than any other clubs fans accept it and get over it. Peterborough is another one i don't like, but i have no idea as to why. Lastly evey week look for Stenhousmuirs result.
You've not been to SJP then? Dai: "travelling all the way to carlisle and newcastle" What about travelling to the Liberty once in a while?
That's because of our fanbase rather than our history, although the latter has obviously had an impact on the former.
KJ i have been to SJ park and that is what is so annoying. Nothing special as were nearly all PL clubs this year. The atmosphere has been piss poor.
I like yeovil even though last time i went up there about 5-6years ago they had a slap head named williams i think playing for them and robbed a draw. Singing wots it like to see a crowd etc good banter with them that day though thier stewards were right p****s. They got players taken by brizzle a bit we also had they`re captain wots his name Darren way ? here till his legs went good player too, and lent Mc Donald to them is he still there ? Also like Liverpool,Aldershot,Blackpool mostly for thier funny manager Ian Holloway and the jam tarts Hearts for various reasons. Dont care to much for the obvious ones mentioned !
Dilligaf, I'm already in the naughty corner. Our best mate, little John Hughs, couldn't take the banter I was chucking at him so he reportd me to the Stasi. Gon fishin'.
