I think Carroll will be one of our key players at the 2014 world cup, however, I really feel Holt deserves the Euros. He's the second highest english goal scorer! Can you imagine being the second top scorer, but not even in the four or five strikers going? That would be seriously unfair on him.

    My squad would be

'Keepers: Hart, Ruddy, would Robinson come out of retirement? If so him, if not Foster, unless he wouldn't come back either in which case I'd go for Green I guess

Defenders: Richards, Walker, Cahill, Lescott, Ferdinand, Terry, Cole, Baines

Midfielders: Parker, Gerrard, Lampard, Carrick, Young, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Johnson

    Forwards: Rooney, Holt, Sturridge, Welbeck

I think it's a real shame that Johnson hasn't got more game time, he has the quality to be our best winger. Hopefully he'll get a move in the summer and start playing every week, if I were a Liverpool fan I'd take him in an instant. I think Carrick has been exceptional for United this season and really don't like Milner or Barry; technically awful. The 'ox' would be very hungry and passionate, something that some England players have lacked in past competitions.

A flaw with this team is that in the pre-Rooney games we'll be relying on the midfielders to support the strikers a lot more, as they don't have the quality to make something out of nothing like Rooney can, but we should be able to beat Ukraine and Sweden comfortably, and whilst I expect a thrashing off the French at least we'll still qualify.

Downing is crap, but you picked Ferdinand, Carrick and ****beck in your squad, let alone then placing them as in your starting 11.

    <somersault><rofl><somersault>

If this is a genuine squad it's one of the most ridiculous posts I've ever seen on any forum ever.

Carrick and Welbeck starting... Laurent Blanc wouldn't believe his luck!! <doh>

Tom "10 games + a loan at Watford" Cleverley

Carrick has been a consistent performer all season, one of very few English players who can actually pass the ball and keep possession, has to be there. Welbeck is coming of age and combines well with Rooney. That's something England haven't had in ages, a partnership up front. Usually it's just been sticking two blokes there who play like two strangers. Cleverley is there as a bit of a wildcard option and for the future, he has struggled with injuries this season but a really promising player.

And jaffa I'll gladly read your reasoning as to why Ferdinand shouldn't be there. He's the best English centre-half. His injury problems have been pretty bad in recent years but whenever he's fit he's quality. Terry for example is not fit to lace his boots.

    Cleverley "wildcard" over Gerrard.... <doh>

Roy will play the tried, tested and failed "golden generation" all over again. ****beck, Young and Tom Watford Cleverley won't get close to the starting XI.

So the hopes of a nation should partly fall on the shoulders of a player that's 'coming of age' and who combines well with a player thats banned for the first 2 of 3 group games.

    <doh>

England could be out of the tournament before Rooney gets to kick a ball.

To be fair, I see your point. It makes me think how worryingly poor we are in central defence. I just think Ferdinand and John beaten by the bounce Terry are past it, saying that though, Lescott is carried by Kompany at city and Cahill is just a shadow of his former self. I honestly think we are seriously lacking in that position. Don't get started on Smalling and Jones, if they played anywhere else but utd, they wouldn't get a look in.

Personally couldn't give a rats ass, I'd prefer no Liverpool players to be picked, or for them to be out in the first round and back home before the postcards.

I wouldn't watch international football, if they were playing in the garden. I just want everyone back for the first day of pre-season, none of this returning in dribs and drabs as they have been playing two weeks before.

<doh> Ouch; That was bad; But good eye!

I Will replace him with Scott Carson, but I definitively feel foolish now. In my defense he was born in England :D, Hence the confusion.

You say that like its a bad thing? Welbeck and Cleverly are both rubbish IMHO. Young has always been solid but International quality?? I dont think so.

    Walker
    Ferdinand
    Terry
    Cole

    Johnson
    Parker
    Lampard

Gerrards been a shadow of his former self this season, his age and having to carry the rest of you team for the last ten years has finally started to slow him down.
