Why am I so positive about next season?? Everyday I look forward to seeing who we are linked with, who we have signed etc. I can't help but think next year will be the year we are promoted, that we make some quality signings, more worryingly a small part of me still expects UEFA to one day apologise for letting match fixing cost us two European cups. Experience would say UEFA & the FA will just put the boot in, that Ken Bates will let us down, that Colin will have left by Christmas and that Snodgrass will be sold after deciding that he wanted to be closer Scotland by joining Norwich. But I am still really optimistic... Why???
Because optimism equals ambition, and ambition is a state of permanent dissatisfaction with the present.
Sheer stupidity? I am always hopeful but I am no longer optimistic with regards Leeds United. Next year willbe no different. We will never do well while we have such short term strategies and a chairman who hoodwinks fans with promises and empty words and those same fans fall for his lies every year. Let me ask. What would you be thinking if Warnock came out with realism and told everyone now that we had no chance? Would you believe him? Would you want to get rid of him? So why do you believe when he tells you the opposite? He is merely selling you what you want to buy and you refuse to consider anything different
I must admit I was last year, I looked at Gradel, Snoddy, Becchio, McCormack and I was looking forward to the return of Kissa and I thought 2-3 nice signings and we can push for a challenge. Then the lack of arrivals soon became clear, the talk of losing Gradel, the O'Dea loan and the debacle over which keeper we would actually get and then when we still hadn't got one or signed anyone else of any substance with two weeks to go I thought "Oh Dear"... When Grayson got the sack I was expecting us to wait until the end of the season to appoint a new manager and things couldn't have been worse, then a slight bit of optimism crept in when we appointed Warnock. That optimism grew when the clear out started and gathered a little pace when we signed Pearce. I am still positive about next season BUT I am kind of waiting for that optimism to be kicked into touch. Too many 'IFS' still at present, contract talks with McCormack, Snoddy and Clayton and wondering will the next 2-3 players have the same appeal as Pearce? We shall see but for now I too am on the positive fence.
While we are debating doom and gloom or a positive outlook, has anyone actually listed the nearly won it Leeds United virtual trophy cabinet? The two Euro cups are mentioned on this thread, what about league top 3, fa cup runners up, league cup, euro semis, playoffs etc. This is what makes us all passionate about Leeds, the history of the almost made it super success, with some damn good trophies won outright.
With regards Leeds United my year splits into quarters: May to July I'm optimistic about the season ahead August to October I try to stay positive November to January realism sets in when I realise we're not any good February to April pessimistic about EVER getting promotion And so May comes around again and the cycle repeats itself. I can't be downbeat and pessimistic all year round, it would do my head in.
I'm normally optimistic until i see all our rivals buying top quality players and making ambitious signings. Then it kicks in that we are a long way off challenging for promotion. With Grayson we always had a manager who would go pretty much 100% in the cup competitions setting up some great matches in his time at the club and he managed to get us overachieving in his 1.5 championship campaigns giving some optimism of a top 6 finish. Hopefully Warnock can get us prepared for the 1st match and get a bit of momentum going.
I lost abit of hope today reading what bates said about fans needing to be patient because signings wont be made any time soon. just sets it all up for us to take the rejects at the end of august
Bates needs to keep his mouth shut, i'm sick of his excuses. Does the pathetic season and massive 4000 drop in attendance not tell him that his strategy is a failure?
Realism equals acceptance of the actuality when you can not influence any change, and it just leaves you to be able to bitch all you like without having to worry about going through any peaks or troughs. Also don't have to make up ****e sayings that mean nothing but allow the original author to believe he is either funny or clever
Cheer up. What fun would it be if we won everything, no one ever said supporting Leeds was easy but at least we know what to expect. Think of Marching on Together as our unofficial Terms & Conditions: Clause 3: "We've had our up & downs"
Ken needs to be more optimistic about the teams chances, maybe then he'd stop selling all our talent during the season.
Elmo what the **** are you on about you miserable ****? By the way I wasn't the original author of those sayings but I wouldn't expect you to know that so no worries.
You may have a point there Elmo, especially the ****er that wrote: Oops! Seems it might be you that's the ****er ...... Marko signed you up for the Doom & Gloom party?
I understand 666's realism, we've only had one signing to breed any optimism, and that's alongside players yet to sign contracts, a skeletal squad and the same old noises from Bates.
**** me, the seasons only just finished, he's already got Pearce signed, lets see what Colin does in the coming months before you all start with the doom and gloom.
