Who would you like to see Roy pick? Mine: Keepers: Hart, Green, Carson. Full backs: Johnson, Richards, Walker, Baines. Center backs: Terry, Cahill, Jones, Jagielka. midfielders: Parker, Gerrard, Barry, Milner, Lampard. Wingers/attackers: Downing, Johnson, Walcott. Strikers: Rooney, Welbeck, Carroll, Bent. Struggled with keepers and center backs. I'll probably change my mind with this.
Keepers: Hart, Green, Kenny. Full backs: A.Cole, Richards, Walker, Baines. Center backs: Smalling, Ferdinand, Jones, Jagielka. Midfielders: Parker, Gerrard, Henderson, Barry (Scholes instead if possible). Wingers/attackers: Young, Johnson, Walcott. Strikers: Rooney, Welbeck, Carroll, Crouch, Sturridge, HESKEY (just joking).
after watching the game today, thought Carroll had a really good first half but poor first touches let him down in the second. still best option as target man for England. thought Downing was dog shyte (as usual) . Henderson played well though
Keepers: Hart, Ruddy, Foster. Full backs: Cole, Richards, Walker, Baines. Center backs: Ferdinand, Cahill, Lescott, Jagielka. midfielders: Parker, Gerrard, Barry, Rodwell, Lampard. Wingers/attackers: Lennon, Johnson, Young. Strikers: Rooney, Welbeck, Holt, Sturridge.
GK: Hart, Green & Ruddy RB: Richards & Walker LB: Cole & Baines CB: Terry, Ferdinand, Cahill & Lescott RM: Lennon & Milner LM: A.Johnson & A.Young CM: Gerrard, Parker, Lampard, Barry CF: Rooney, Carroll, Crouch and Bent (Defoe if not fit) I am ignoring the race issue with John Terry. If he does not go then I would take one of Phil Jones or Chris Smalling instead. I think Glen Johnson will go instead of one of those right backs, and I also think Walcott will be on the plane somewhere too. Edit: I'd prefer it if Gerrard, Carroll and Johnson didn't board the flight
Nice to see Liverpool fans pick Ruddy! Having seen both Ruddy and Green at Carrow Road on a regular basis I would say Ruddy is slightly better than Green was in his prime, which I feel he is past. Green certainly isn't the player he was back in his days. Although beyond Hart, Ruddy and green there isn't much else. Stockdale had a bad time on loan at Ipswich. But Carson may come out of retirement and I think he will go given he is on loan at West Brom with Hodgson this season which will help him. Don't think you guys need to hear what I have to say about Holt! But, both Holt and Carroll up front for England would be interesting!
A Holt and Carroll partnership upfront with Roy Hodgson in charge would 100% result in long ball tactics. This would mean the midfield would be wasted too. Fair to say, I would hate to see this. Same happens when Crouch plays. Although, Carroll is a big lad, he does try to drop back and play football, seen him having a go at other Liverpool players this season for not playing it his feet (and for not getting the crosses in too).
Hart, Green and Ruddy Johnson, Cole, Richards and Baines Cahil, Jagielka, Lescott and Smalling Parker, Lampard, Gerrard and Barry Young, Johnson, Walcott, Milner Carroll, Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck Terry is really overated, and not just because of his performance last night against us. He's just average and slow and as for his leadership, it's mostly just bollocking team mates, even if he's at fault and not them. Never mind the fact he tries to bully referees, gets in their faces and makes the whole team look bad (this isn't even taking into consideration his legal case). Ferdinand or Smalling was 50/50 but with an experienced midfield, it's time to bring in the younger CBs. Smalling got the nod. No spot for the darling Jones. The media loves him, but the other 8 have played better than him this season (even if he's out of position mostly - what is his proper position?) so he can watch the games from home. Lampard/Gerrard/Scholes - any 2 of those 3 will do. But not all of them. Carroll has played himself into the squad.
I'm going to have to be careful at what I say, please don't jump on me for this (I know some of you will anyway). It is perhaps fair to say that Carroll hasn't played played to the standards he is capable of this season, but he has improved in the last two games. To say he should play for England is perhaps jumping the gun a bit. I feel that for Carroll to justify being selected for the Euros, if he is, he needs to perform consistently over at least ten games. Whereas Holt has performed consistently throughout the whole season and has scored more goals. I am a fan of Carroll, but I think there needs to be a little bit more of a justification, and a few more good performances for him to be picked other than just two good games. Please don't have a go at me, I'm not saying all this to irritate or anything!
What the vast majority of football fans and the media don't see is what Liverpool HAVE been seeing since Christmas. Carroll has been playing very well for several months, just not with the goals. He doesn't make the headlines because the media love the idea of 'the struggling 35mill striker' and especially the comparrisons they repeatedly make to him and 'the struggling 50mill striker'. Ask any Liverpool fan. Carroll's been playing very well for several months. Holding up the ball, winning the ball, tracking back to help the midfield, defensive set pieces, bullying defenders and creating space...just recently he's also added the goal threat he's capable of. He's a match winner when he's in the mood and he's now showing that fighting spirit regularly. I do like Holt, don't get me wrong. But England NEED to be bringing in the next generation of players and Holt isn't one for the future.
Remember the 'Golden Generation' though and the big flop they turned out to be? Surely we were 'building for the future' back then? Players need to be picked on form. Fair enough, pick Carroll if he's been on form, I haven't seen him play week in week out. But you don't know if you don't try. Both players should then at least be picked for the friendlies coming up.
