    The squad last October was..

    Goalkeepers
Scott Carson, Joe Hart, David Stockdale

    Defenders
Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Phil Jagielka, Phil Jones, Micah Richards, John Terry, Kyle Walker

    Midfielders
Gareth Barry, Stewart Downing, Adam Johnson, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Ashley Young

    Forwards
Darren Bent, Andy Carroll, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Bobby Zamora.

We can be certain that not all of those will make the next squad but who will stay, who will go and who will come in?

Would be disappointed if any of the following made it:
    Downing
    Milner
    Carroll
    Zamora

That right stick up for the Geordie!!! Seriously though who else is there? We have no strikers an ageing central midfield and defence, I cant see we are going to have any other choice than lump it to the big man and as you say finally looks to have found some form. We might as well go and try and do a Greece cos if we try to pass it against the top sides in Europe we will get killed.

I'd take Carroll as well, he's actually been excellent for about 6 weeks, and the goals have come in the last 3.

Similar to Torres, the lack of goals was hiding some pretty decent displays, and the lad really is a handful.

He'd cause problems against France, and we will need a bit of height & strength against the Swedes, who are ALWAYS competitive (and have a good record vs us).

I think we'll do Ukraine comfortably, hard to beat on their own patch, but pretty poor in reality.

    Hart
Walker Rio Cahill Baines is easy, we have BIG problems in midfield IMO.

I cannot pick a single midfielder who I am 100% on, and that is a terrifying thought

Rooney and Welbeck excites me, with the options of the unpredictable Sturridge and Carroll's aerial threat.

Bent will go, but I don't see him playing.

I think lumping it up to Carroll is our only option for this tournament. We don't have the players to compete and play passing football at the minute, but it would be interesting to see if the worlds top sides can cope with him. In future tournaments, we may be able to play more attractive football, but for this one I definitely think long ball is our only hope.

I agree, as per my previous post, I think we are awful in midfield.

Wilshere missing the whole season is a bastard, he's the only lad with GENUINE promise I see, Oxlade-Chamberlain looked superb for a spell, seems to have vanished, or is he injured and I missed it?

I'd take him if fit, like his directness and willingness to run, pass & shoot.

We have a lousy midfield, if we are taking this tournament seriously everything has to be done to get scholes out of retirement.

You look at the so called next generation and Wilshere will probably be the only next world class player. Henderson, Rodwell, Jones are not international standard yet. Who else is there?

Oxo and Wilshere, no holding players, no wingers.

    Worrying.

I know I'm biased but hopefully Colback may have a cap or two in a few years time, he has the potential.

Wilshere is the only player that excites me at the minute. Ox is overrated. We are doomed to mediocrity for the next decade when we get excited over our "top young prospects" of Sturridge, Welbeck and Jones.

I totally agree mate, we simply aren't producing players.

I do think Walker is a smashing RB, an area we've been piss weak since Neville retired, and I like Cahill a lot, but where are the stars?

I do think Ox will be a smashing player, but we have no midfield engine coming through at all.

I'm just glad I have Spain as back-up...

Isn't he on loan at Watford or summat?

Hardly a sign of being on the verge of greatness!
