.... Other than me who thinks we have a chance of getting something other than a tonking or a narrow defeat from our last game? Just to clarify, I'm not saying we will get a draw or so help me a win (mind that lightning) but should we be so readily rubbishing our chances before we even set foot on the pitch?I'm a fine one to talk, having started a thread some weeks ago saying we were down already, but things change over time as was pointed out and here we are still with our heads above water. City's home form is absolutely stunning; 17 wins, 1 draw and NO defeats (so far!) but ask yourself this question; who would have given Sunderland a breeze before their game, and yet at one stage they were leading 3-1!No-one gave us a hope of beating Arsenal, they being on a 7 match winning streak at the time; or Wigan against ManU or Arsenal, but the reverse happened, and can happen again. Just as winning runs have to come to an end sometime, so too with losing runs, which brings me to the subject of our away form; the worst in the premiership, our last win being against Stoke in November. What a time for those two edifices to come tumbling down at the Etihad!I know it's unlikely, but let's retain at least a glimmer of hope that our boys can reproduce the form and fighting spirit they showed at LR against City earlier in the season and you just never know what might happen....
I always believe we will win. I've never gone to a game expecting anything else. Even at two down v Liverpool I knew we would win. ( Ask Norway. ) No one expects us to win this Sunday, as all sensible reasoning, statistics and probability tells us that we won't. But I ignore all that rubbish, as we will win at the Etihad. I just know it. I've already had a vision of the City players falling to the pitch in despair at the sounding of the final whistle as the QPR players charge towards the Rangers fans in celebration. Get ready for a crackerjack of a game this Sunday, a game that we shall talk about for years to come. Our time is coming gents.
Grinners, I've been trying to keep such outrageous thoughts to myself.......I reckon City will be a bag of nerves, and we really have little expectation......mind you I was convinced we would get something at Chelsea.
The form guide is there for all to see so you have to forgive fans for expecting the most likely result. But these are pretty exceptional circumstances. When was the last time one final game of the season decided both champion and relegation? It all depends how man city handle this unfamiliar situation. We won't get a tonking because GD isn't an issue for them. Would it be better for us if man utd score early? That could really give them the shakes! If they push, it'll leave room at the back to counter.
Exactly this - Chelsea were there for the taking, as their recent results in the league show. Conceding the early goal was crucial, and unlike old trafford we collapsed. Need to keep them out forthe first 20 mins - then let City's nerves take over. Sure, they'll probably still beat us - but if they score in the first few minutes, we might as well all start watching the Stoke game!
Even a 100 to 1 shot is expected to win every 100 times it races. We won't be that long odds to get something. Unlikely but ALWAYS possible.
If this was mid-season and neither team had much riding on it I could be inclined to agree but Citeh HAVE to win to be sure of the title and news from Sunderland will be quick to arrive it Utd are in front so we can expect wave after wave of attacks. Citeh will not settle for a draw and if they get their necks in front they will seek to stretch the lead or chance of a draw beyond our grasp. They have the best keeper in the country, one of the tightest defences in the league and any one of Silva, Tevez Dzeko, Ballotelli or Aguero could beat most teams on their own let alone teamed up with their expensive midfield. We nearly gave them a bloody nose at home and Hart said it had been their hardest game thus far but with so much to play for and so many options I find it hard to see beyond a loss. Hoping that Bolton don't beat Stoke is no way for our players to approach this game, may as well get whupped 6-0 and go for it as lose 1-0 having parked the bus. I was happy enough with the team selection against Stoke, maybe bring in Diakite (if he is well enough) instead of Buz who might be a bit too light weight against the likes of Kompany & Toure. Get in their faces from the kick off and at least we can make a game of it. Up The R's!!!!
Indeed but anywhere I go to rant and rave, hes right behind me like a flea on a cows backside. I can't take it much longer
Can't argue with anything you say there Grove, and hate to bring everybody's favourite local team into it, but you could have substituted Barca for Citeh in your post and it would have been equally true for their prospects in a TWO-LEGGED contest, and most on here and elsewhere didn't give them a ghost of a chance. Yet the opposite happened, and nobody can explain it. Then they go to L'pool and 4-1. The very predictability of these uneven contests make them ripe for the turnaround and as Swords said this is football, anything can happen.
I am not too confident after our performance at Chelsea because if player cannot be up for a local derby, what can they be up for? Saying all that, this game is about survival and those players do not want to be playing in The Championship next season (because we all know how poor it is). I would rather be playing City than Utd because Utd have been there done that where as City have not and we don't know how they will be. Forget the game at LR and how well we played that night because they did not have Kompany/Tevez playing and i think Yaya Toure came on late. For me Kompany was a big miss for them as was Tevez. They are at home and clearly favs to win. However i could never se us beating Arse, Chels, Spurs, Liverpool so who knows? One other thing. How deluded is Dalglish? Listening to him on SSN today about Liverpool's lap of honour after last nights game and how the fans stayed and applauded the players and he said "No other clubs fans would do that"? What a deluded sentimental emotionalistic crap that muppet talks!
Grinning, you weigh up the arguments very well and, like you, I am deluded enough to think that we could get a point out of this game. I am particularly heartened by our home performance against City when we were very unlucky not to get at least a point.
Dalglish is an embarrassment to himself and his club. His behavior this year, especially around Suarez, appalling. Hope they keep him for next season, he's past it.
How quickly the Chelsea debacle has been forgotten. That was the game i thought we might get a draw from - chelsea with a hangover from the champions league, and a derby that we would be well up for. Turns out we were utterly diabolical. In truth we were pretty poor against Stoke too. So I'm afraid to say, particularly after seeing how good City were in a high pressure game at Newcastle, we have got absolutely zero chance. Our shambolic defensive display against Chelsea serves a dire warning. I know it's great to be optimistic but in all honesty, we'll do well to avoid an utter tonking. Tevez and Aguero against Hill and Ferdinand? I'm going to watch from behind the sofa. My glimmer of hope is that there's always Stoke - with Gerry Francis and Peter Crouch in their ranks, I'm trusting them to do the business and save our necks. But anyone who thinks we can go to City and get a result is frankly deluded. Mind you, if I'm wrong, I'll gladly come on here and get dogs abuse from everyone.
