I was in a pub in Wycombe on Sat afternoon (dont get up that way much nowadays). Found myself in a conversation with a Wasps fan who had just got back from their game. I was really pleasantly suprised to find that their fans too, actually hate the way their club is being managed and seem to want Hayes gone asap. The impression I was left with was that Wasps fans have a lot of time for WWFC and want to see us do well because, whether any of us like it or not, its in everyones mutual interests for both clubs to prosper. I dont like Wasps being at AP anymore than the next WWFC fan but it was refreshing to hear that they seem to have similar problems. I dont know loads about Steve Hayes dealings but seeing Wasps and there fans as allies in getting him gone seems like a better approach than creating divisions......
You could be right about the fact that both sets of fans want hayes out devon but will it happen.under hayes leadership wasps have gone from being one of the top sides to nearly getting relegated.i am sure that is something wasps fans find hard to accept
or Kingsmead. Or Wycombe's training ground. Or maybe no-one told them about the Council decision. Surely they will have to have a stadium and, as far as I know, there isn't one. If they have to build one it will need planning permission and will take some time. Meanwhile wouldn't they continue at AP? I'm confused.
I had pretty much the same conversation with a Wasps fan I met in a pub in London on Saturday. They are sick of Hayes and sick of playing in Wycombe. I know a lot of Wycombe fans want them to fail and I can understand that to a certain extent. But I'm glad they stayed up as it is in our best interests as well as theirs. My only issue is that if they leave Adams Park how do we cover the loss in rental income that we currently receive.
I know where you are coming from magic but imagine if you got rid of all the wasps office staff how much money would that save.
It would save money, but i guess a lot of the infrastructure brought in to support them cannot be so easily removed i.e computers, systems etc. I don't know of any football / rugby ground sharing relationship that is harmonious. If we can seriously downsize to make the backroom staff appropriate for a League 2 club then i will happily wave them off to their new "Stingerdome"
How many computers and sytems have they got? I have no idea what systems they have but surely it can't take much to run a Rugby club so I can't believe the IT budget is very much. I can't imagine there's much infrastructure either; it's not as though they have head offices/branches throughout the UK (and beyond). I would be very surprised if they needed more than a small local area network (with internet access) which they would just take with them, assuming Wasps and WWFC have dedicated LANS. Presumably all their backroom staff wages are charged to WASPs' accounts so can't see how we would save anything by them leaving. It's clear though that we would lose £650k pa though (or whatever the rent is). I might be talking rubbish as I don't know how they are set up.
Given the uncertainty about our finances I do not think that it is a bad thing if Wasps continue to be tenants for another year or two - it will at least provide a basic revenue stream via their rent and also allow some of the overheads to be shared. The real issue for me is / was the joint ownership of both clubs by Hayes and the conflict of interest that this generated. IE the Booker Stadium and the sacrifice of the Wanderers ownership of Adams Park without any equity in the new development.
Agree entirely. If Wasps and WWFC were owned by different people/organisations and Wasps were purely tenants, I wouldnt see any problem with it. In fact, Id encourage that kind of creativity with generating income in these harder times.
