Hear, hear. I have rarely read so much rubbish since I read another comment by Typical on another thread. Great day out. With the crowd off the pitch it allowed all fans the chance to celebrate with the players and their families.
Doing the music and being involved in matchdays I've quickly realised you can't please everyone and that people don't appreciate the hard work others put in. I thought it was a cracking day, one that I will tell the grand kids about!
So did I. And thanks to all who helped get it on. The Pre-match stuff was great. The only things I would have done differently would have been to have CP's speech while the guys were building the platform so we could all hear it and to have had the lap of honour a little more organised. But that's being wise after the event.
Glovepup - can but agree. It will always be an Abraham Lincoln moment " you can't please all of the people all of the time" but whilst there were elements that left me cold, overall I enjoyed the event and will remember the red devils coming in and Victoria singing Jerusalem for a long time. I had assumed that she was going to sing VFR before the match and we have not lost when she has done so and I was worried when Martin Toal and Rose jang hogged the pre match headlines that, in my superstitious mind we would go a goal down. When she sang at half time, I turned to the missus and said "we'll score three now". I, for one, would contract Victoria for every home match.
Anyone taht did their part should be appluded. However, it was the club that failed on so many fronts. Ran out of programmes Invited the team to run out to total silence. Hold your cards in the air!!! and clap. Cheap nasty bits of paper as a thank you Some obscure DJ who looked like Dave Smashy and was cringeworthy Stupid Opera Divas that shat themselves and belted out crap that no one could keep up with (what was it buy one get two free?) Snotty faced security The speeches were late The fans were barely ackowledged or thanked. Look what Swindon and Sheffield did for a celebration. We looked very cheap.
On the bright side, you got to have a good old whinge, which deep down is what you really wanted. I thought it was a fantastic day and I really enjoyed it, and so did my old man, and even the miserable git who sits to my right. Everyone around me seemed intent on savouring the day, rather than picking holes in it mind... As for a thank you to the fans, I'll happily take the 1st place finish and 101 points as being just that.
On another thread you are complaining about plastics who only turn up for the thrills and good days out yet here you are suggesting the club should spend money on attracting people to matches with something other than good football. Does the contradiction in thinking not give cause for concern? Or is it just that the club should lay on personal entertainment for a select group of fans who have given the thirty years of support and that everyone else should have been excluded from the ground before that commenced?
Do you not think what Sheffield and Swindon are doing is a bit embarrassing? Getting bands that were relevant when they were last in the premiership, or having a civic something just makes me cringe. I think Saturday could have been better, but I enjoyed it massively so. The main focus should be on us going up, and for everything that you might feel let down about, just remember they (the guys who provided paper) were the ones who provided a championship winning team. I know what I'd prefer.
Super, I did post this on another thread, but I thought I'd repeat it here - don't know what Sheffield are doing but this is my take on the Swindon celebrations... As I used to work in Swindon two days a week, I'd guess this celebration is more about the town turning a corner than simply about the tremendous achievements of Paulo and Co. Officially 'the worst hit town in Britain' during the recession, I've seen at first hand the devastation wrought on this unlovely but decent place - now it's time to celebrate success with a bang and hopefully signal an upturn in fortunes for the entire town. Good luck to them.
