Good Morning everyone, Warnock will know in the next fortnight what McCormacks plans are. If he turns down the new deal, he is likely to join Clayton on the transfer list. Why do we always wait til they are in there final year to negotiate new contracts??? As already reported on this board Heskeys name has been touted about. Has he still got the legs on him for the next few seasons or, are Villa getting rid of him at the right time. He must be 15 stone.... In seasons gone by, half our squad has been made up of loanees. Looking at the up and coming youngsters from Liverpool, City, Arsenal ands Chelski, which two youngsters would you like to see on a seasons long loan next season??? And finally, Neil Warnock insisted his one-year project as Leeds United boss would leave a legacy of “investments” at Elland Road after striking his first deal of the summer. Warnock, who signed 24-year-old Jason Pearce from Portsmouth last week, claimed his strategy was aimed at securing long-term assets and avoiding the need for another overhaul of United’s squad in 12 months’ time. What I didn't realise is that Warnock plans to rite at the end of the 2012/13 season....
Morning elland. We have done the kids route over the last few years and none have worked. Have to wonder why. McCormack, Clayton, White, Snoddy - none signed renewal contracts yet. My prediction: none will.
Morning 666, It is mistifying why most of our loanees don't work out, and when finally we do sign two decent ones Townsend and Smith, they both leave us. There must be more to it, cannot believe Townsend did the dirty and went to Birmingham. Hope Birmingham don't go up....
Moring Elland, morning Elmo. I think Warnock's first move in the transfer market, a 4 year deal for Pearce, is pointing the way ahead. His comments in YEP about leaving a legacy, rather than getting journeymen 30 year old+ players hints that he'll be going the way of younger players. Let's hope he has more success than Grayson. His reputation suggests he will. Just looking forward to our next signings. I'm hoping Ross, Clayton & others take the hint & sign extensions on the understanding that we will happily sell them in January if it doesn't look as though we'll be going up. Similar to the Beckford deal other than we will sell in January if they still want to leave. On Heskey, don't think he's the right man to take us forward. Even in his pomp playing for England, he should have been using his size to scatter defenders to the four winds. Instead he huffed & puffed, but didn't show regularly enough for me what he was capable of. Also not sure we could afford his wages.
Not quite Elland. Yeboah was a class act. He did send defenders flying, & that goal against the 'Pool I think, is the nett still shaking? By the way, what's this about Warnock's plans to rite??? Not another football book surely??? Maybe he'll retire instead!!!
elland Townsend had a good reputation, but watching him play he was no different to Aidy white, ran like **** with his head down and had an awful final ball, couldnt cross and couldnt shoot. I know he had a hard act to follow in Gradel but Andros was average and will never make it at Spurs.
Cosmic 9 clubs at the age of 20 proves hes got a ****ed up attitude and nobody really wants to sign him permanent. shooting with his right foot he looked amateur!
Morning all Yeah from what I saw I wasn't amazingly bothered when Townsend left. As for Heskey, I don't think he'd be an amazing signing. As I've seen on a couple of other threads he does well to get the knock downs, but you have to have a consistent goal scorer next to him to take advantage. If we are strengthening up front (I guess a lot of that depends on McCormack and his contract) then we need proven goal scorers not target men for me.
Agree all the way. If you look at someone like Roberts or Yakubu, they can do both. That's the type of player you want, not a specialist 'punishment taker/diver'.
I'd like to see us sign Andy Johnson from Fulham, bit injury prone but a proven goalscorer and still lightning quick. Can also play on the flanks. Warnock knows him well from their time together at Palace. Out of contract this Summer.
No manager ever gives up - or allows their players to give up - by January though. Even though it would be the sensible thing to be realistic, you even try saying in January that the season is over and you get absolutely trollied on places like here. The one thing LUFC guarantees is a bad winter. Unless we are way ahead of third by January, 20 points seems to be the usual mark we need, you can forget promotion (ie forget play-offs too - we have NEVER won one).
I'll take 10pts ahead of 3rd as an indication of likely auto promotion. But I get your point about bad winters.
There's a nice article from one of the lads from QPR saying they won't think any less of Warnock if he signs Diouff, after his vile behaviour towards Jamie Mackay when he broke his leg.... Seems almost everyone that has worked with Warnock, only has good things and respect for him...
Afternoon all - Must admit I thought we would have our second player in place by now, we certainly need to fill a few positions, 1/3 into May and was it 4-5 Warnock wanted in place before the last week in May when he goes on holiday?
