Self explanatory title. Undoubtedly the focus of FSG is on our league position as they crave the champions league as much as we do, though for completely different reasons. That being said, and this competition requiring something like 19 games to reach the final, will we be going all out to win the thing or will it be a similar approach to Spurs this year? Personally, I really hope we have a real go at it. Next season is probably too soon in terms of this squads development to reach the top four, but going far in Europe would be great experience for the likes of Hendo, Carroll, Shelvey and even Raheem.
Do English teams take this cup seriously though?? It will be a change for us to be entering teams into this tournament that can acutually do well in it.
I think a cup like the old uefa can kickstart a new era though like it did for your boys back in the Houllier days
Mind you... If you have to qualify early to get into the group stage its not such a bad thing. Pre-season consists of games that actually means something instead of pointless friendlies.
Hope we go for it, actually miss Europe whatever the form. We can add to the first team and hopefully really push for the win. Youngsters can be integrated, but no more than any other competition.
I actually nicked that from an old bobby robson quote who put one of our better seasons down to such a start.
Its a competition we should be looking to win, or at least be competative in. At the same time we dont haveto play the strongest 11 in the early stages to still be strong. I think we need a bigg squad next season. Europa League group stages could be putting in the trusty experienced hands of Carragher and Bellamy and be a great experience for players like Henderson, Shelvey, Caotes and Carroll. Smart rotation is the trick.
Gonna cost you a small fortune to replace him and Gerrard in the next year or so as well, to truely replace Gerrard though you would need to spend at least £40m in todays money.
i mean.... It has taken us the best part of 6 years and millions of failed pounds to finally find a player to replace Big Al.
