Just dusted off my old records and thought Id put a nice mix together of some old dubs etc. DJ Feeever - Skylarker Mix http://www.mediafire.com/?me5ddrff378y39a A mix of reggae on hip hop beats with plenty of scratching, cutting, and sampling etc. DJ Feeever was my old name back in the day, decided to give it another bash as I used to be pretty good. Thanks. It's not 100% spot on, but considering I'm a little rusty I'm quite pleased. I posted it on the music forum I go on and it's going down a storm.
excellent stuff from you matey Not my cup of tea music wise but the work's quality. Needs more Them Crooked Vultures What decks you got? Back in the day I had a set of technics 1200s n 1210s no scratching mind you, especialy on the 1200s back then, far too heavy a table on em. yes that long ago You're not mixing CDs? Goood to know I am not the only recovering Vinyl junkie on here
I still use 1210's mate - always have, always will. Got a garage full of vinyl, wont touch digital for mixing. I use a digital setup for samples that's it. The 1210's are perfect for scratching, but I use a stylus that's been specially waxed on both decks. Like I say, I haven't had the decks going for a while so this isn't my best work - not too bad though. I'm planning to get a new studio set up this year, and gonna get some new exclusive dubs made for me. Got one coming from Cutty ranks and one from Movado, but they're like $200 and $350 for each track! But nothing like having an exclusive track that mentions your name!! Cheers for listening though everyone
haven't listened yet but have dowmloaded. I will do that tomorrow when i have time to appreciate what's going on and haven't got a bellyfull of cider. There's something intrinsically better about vinyl. A good deck helps but its something more than that. To me the sound is just warmer (don't ask me to define warmer - it just is). Not sure about all this scratching stuff. In my day a 'clean' segue was the real test of a DJ.
You try segueing Sly and the family Stone's Dance To The Music into Family Affair and back with out cocking-up!
Oh yes you do. Merging seamlessly one tune into another. It was more fun when you took one artist with 2 songs in different rhythms and moved from tune A to tune B and then back again so that people kept on dancing without even knowing that they had actually changed rhythms.
That's a fair comment. But the problem is once you've got that nailed then it's nice to add something extra, plus scratching goes well with hip hip beats. Being able to cleanly match beats and produce a a seamless mixtape, isn't a test anymore Dave, any DJ that's half decent should be able to do that with their eyes closed. Especially these ****ers that use digital mixers as it does it for you by pushing a button. That's another reason why it's good to scratch, as at least it show's you're using vinyl.
