How thankful should we be now that we got rid of Enrique and signed the younger, far more superior Santon for less than we sold Enrique. Santon's grown so much in stature as the seasons gone on and has shown why he's regarded in Italy as having the potential to be as good as Maldini. Scary that he's only 21!

Couldn't agree more. It's made even sweeter given that his rise in form is coinciding with Enrique's rapid decline.

Enrique has been average at Liverpool. Santon is going to be a class act....Enrique can only dream.

And wish he was back here with Colo and Jonas who he got on well with, and where he was appreciated.

He looks quality on the ball and looks a LOT better at defending now. It took Enrique a season to get used to the Prem so I can't wait to see what he's like next season! It seems like he can take on anyone when he's running

Enrique's still settling in at Liverpool but he really shot himself in the foot with his frankly spiteful 'Top 6' comment. Were it not for that I'd quite happily have Enrique on the left and Santon on the right as when he got used to our system, Enrique was a beast too.

Has anyone else noticed he has a similar running gate to Gillespie?

Haven't been to Gillespie or Santon's houses so have no idea what their gates look like mate.

Hmm not sure about this at all. Number 1, Santon is a right back and will be moved when we sign a left back. Hopefully that will be in the summer. Santon will be a top class talent for us. I thought 5m was a bargain and it certainly looks that way. He'll be the next going onto the big 4 shopping lists, he's that good. I watched him a lot in Italy and you can just see he oozes class. He had a tough time there after injury and Inter has been run very poorly. I have a good friend over here who is an Inter fan and their fans are up in arms that they are selling the likes of Santon, but retaining a load of 30 yr olds. The squad balance is horrendous.

But Enrique is a very very good left back, and better than Santon in that role. Anyone who has watched Newcastle in the last two seasons would know that. The ideal situation would have been to have both. Enrique made a decision which looked the better option at the time and the safer bet. Things have not turned out that way but its still worked out well for all parties. I'd happily see Jose come home, we all make mistakes, especially unforeseen ones!

Santon given he is a right back has done a sterling job on the left. The likening to Maldini is a reference to the elegance of his play. Like Maldini he doesn't have to worry about his touch or passing. His positional sense has got better and better as he has adapted to the left and our system. Exciting times ahead with this lad.

I think Santon is better at LB. He is far more effective on cutting onto his right, but is kind of nullified when Jonas is in front of him as their both playing the same game. He seemed kind of confused when shifted over to the right, and i for one and looking forward to him on the left.

hell, i'd be happy to see £6M paid out if it got us Enrique back.

We've been great this season despite having dodgy full backs for almost the whole of it. Put a rock solid offensive/defensive threat on each back corner and then let's see what happens.

As for Enrique's Twitter comments, at the time I thought they were entirely accurate, but perhaps better left unsaid

I'd prefer Santon putting a Ball into the box than cutting in and shooting. On the RB he's looked far more comfortable.

And I agree with the OP in a way. I don't think he's a solid defensively as Enrique yet... or as solid as Enrique WAS. Enrique was solid at the start of the season, but has faded away as the season has went on.

Pop singer...did some **** about being someone's hero a few years back!

I like Santon, he's improved over the season but his heading needs to improve, too often he seems to head it back to the opposition and invites pressure onto us - cut this out and he could be world class!

Also, the £5m we paid is a joke, I have no idea how we got him so cheaply! Even before we signed him, he would be my go-to LB/RB on FIFA when I was trying to build the best young squad possible...
