I do agree, they should have pride in their job - but bar a small handful they so us as 'the greatest club' as they are there for the money. What i am getting at is it the managers job to keep them motivated and at times they clearly havent been. I'm not solely blaming one or the other.
Isn't that the risk of removing the manager alone though? The players quickly learn that no matter what they do they are relieved of responsibility as the buck stops with the manager every time. Slightly different situation but I'm thinking Chelsea when I look at it that way.??
I'll stir it up, muawhaha.... http://tribalfootball.com/articles/ex-chelsea-boss-villas-boas-under-consideration-liverpool-3147971 I think Kenny will get one more year and then either step down or get the sack. Again, I think he knows he isn't in it for the long term, but to get the ball rolling. We shall see in the summer though. Oh and the American tour is going to bring some serious money in. All the venues are selling out pretty quick, add to that the merchandise that will be bought ( new kit, colors, etc). games on TV, tv money, the documentary money. Should be a big financial summer that should see us spend on players then recoup it back or add to the banks.
So funny. Bluff re the US tour. We are getting a set fee for it. Whether they sell 1 or 1000000 tickets we're getting the same amount. We will get a cut of any merchandising as we always do.
I wasn't trying to say that the manager doesn't motivate them, of course he does, but the point I was trying to make although I did it badly was, imagine it's you in the team, do you only put in the effort based on how much effort the manager's putting into his motivating? See I would play my socks off every game because I want to play every game. Is the attitude - the manager can't be bothered so neither can I? Who gets Kuyt going? Who got Carroll going on Saturday? When you hear players who've been coached by Dalglish talk they say he's a great man manager. Compare his approach to Rafa's - could you imagine Rafa with his arm round a player - no - so how did he 'motivate' ? What did he do, do you imagine, that Dalglish isn't doing.
I think Citeh had the advantage if allegedly buying the best players in the world, outside of the top 2 in Spain..... allegedly.. I think that is enough to breed confidence. While Liverpool are buying young players "for the future", which I think gives the player that mental excuse not to have to perform. It's all in the head, and personally I'm happier doing it the "Liverpool" way, rather than buying the league, but it does mean there is less expectation on our players. For me, this might be Kenny's biggest flaw. The comment above, about playing for Liverpool being motivation enough, or playing for the fans, best fans in the world, etc... might be Kenny's idea of motivation, and that might just not work for many players these days. It would be interesting to know how Shankly would fair in the modern game.
I only figured that out this week! Apparently they open the gates, as if they need to evacuate the ground in a hurry. I personally think it's just to stop the staff watching the game for 15 minutes. God only knows why they have to test it during games, if no-one actually leaves the ground.
Kind of you to ask, I am single handedly holding back the floor of moronic Liverpool fans while eating Dominos pizza....You??
