Now i mostly read this forum but rarely post.... So in all honestly....who is irreplaceable? Ok we don't want another overhaul, but is that what is needed? Just how many of the squad are realistically capable of going that next step? ............................................................ Not many,...maybe McClean..................help me out here
I think its a misconception to think that to be a top 8 side you need 11 top 8 players. What you need, IMO, is a core of good solid prem players and a few super stars, we have a number of good players but miss the superstars, in particular super star strikers.
Id keep the nucleus of the squad. The likes of gyan Gardner Gordon will go out the wage bill will be eased. I genuinely think we've gother a canny team and if all we did was add a goalscorer wed be comfortably finishing top half. Newcastle pretty much oonly added a creative central midfielder and a goalscorer. that took them from bottom half to challenging for 4th
yup i reakon we only need a couple a good strikers and a decent creative midfielder and we are away, our deffence is prity good and ming will only get better.
Damn you observant people...... This is what iv'e read many a time, but have we? Judging by opinions on here, there are not to many that is accountable for consistent reliable games............break it down................ Sess is the best player, yet is way beneath the standards of say Dempsey................in a mediocre team............. Strikers we are nil and void..... Midfield, most want shot of, with the exception of Colback..who we don't even know his best position. Defence.............Howay, without the combo of the ex man u duo................. G/K.....We seem fine, but once Gordon goes, it's a tussle between the other two. It's not a pop at where we have been, but where we can go with this as a nucleaus of a squad.
I would love a winger with pace on the right to go along with McClean. Teams would have to defend the squad in a completely different manner if there were two wingers able to run at their defense and put in a good cross. Wouldn't help much tho if the crosses were received by crap strikers in the box, so help needed there, as everyone knows. Fletcher and an unknown gem from another league would do for me. A little help in the back would suffice also. An offensive minded LB or RB with another CD. Sorta like the sound of all that.
Mig Bardo O'Shea Brown Izaguirre Hoilett Colback McLean Sess Abdellouae Fletcher. Nice. Outlay? £20million ish.
No-one is indispensable IMO. As a team/squad we wouldn't suffer adversely if the majority of them went IMO. However, having been through the 10 in and 10 out every transfer window for 3 years, we need to stabilise this window and an addition of only 4 or 5 in and 5 or 6 out is what is needed max. Out (not including loans who will all go anyway) we have Bramble, one of the keepers, Elmo, Ji (loan) and Wickham (loan),Richardson, Gardener and Vaughan who will go IMO. In: 1 x LB; 1 x RB cover; 1 x winger/midfield with pace; 2 good strikers this summer only.
Figueroa (free); Hoilett (free); McGeady (£8m); Fletcher (£7m); Abdellouae (£10m) £25m (plus sigining on fees for the frees and the loan)
I think you'd have Hoillett OR McGeady, not both. Very similar players (i'd prefer Hoillett, as he has Prem experience..)
Hoillet and McGeady can operate wide or through the centre Mons and we need more options from the bench than we have currently and a far better squad. You cant have enough good players imo.
You were gunning for top 4 in the first half of the season before Cisse. Hba was there last year granted he was out
Very true, but wou'd probs find both expected first team football, instantly. Maybe the option is the excellent Matty Phillips of Blackpool, or Peter Whittingham of Cardiff, both may have a bit more patience from the bench.
Don't think you can class players like Hoilett as free, as they're going to ask for inflated signing on fee's, like Ba's £2m.
I've been banging on about these two for ages. Whittingham can play across the middle but I think he'd be excellent in the middle next to catts or colback. Phillips would be an option for either flank and also competition up front. There are some very good players in the championship who would step up like swansea and norwich have shown.
