It's going to be nail biting. WBA are in decent form and we are due a win, I suppose.

I think we're going to have to work hard for it, but there's no reason why we can't take all 3 pts. We're going to need a good defensive performance, and that includes the midfield...

  3. Piskie - i am disappointed in you - a 1-0 means you cant catch me in the prediction league. I thought you would have at least gone for 4 goals for Arsenal to try and make up the 9 point gap.

<laugh> I'm just content with knowing that the majority of your points came from predicting wins for us . . .

  5. Except the losses I predicted - Utd at home and City away. Both by the correct scorelines too... without those you'd be ahead of me. <whistle>

    <laugh> Fair play.
Good show for predicting the wins whilst telling us we were **** the rest of the time though <ok>

  7. Well come on, it would be non sensical to predict a loss to say Wigan at home - even if it can (and did) happen. For my expectations we have indeed been crap this year, but so far very lucky that Spurs and Chelsea have been even worse in the league.

In all seriousness, the points haul for 3rd seems very low - will have to check out previous totals...

I agree with you. My expectations were much higher this season, not so much about where we'd finish. I think City and Utd were always going to be favourites, but the manner in which we've thrown some games away this season has been very disappointing. In patches, we've been really good, but it always seemed to be followed by an inexplicable loss that was totally preventable.

My silver lining in this is that at no point this season have we been totally outplayed (the 8-2 aside where we were woeful) Most of our loses came from mistakes that we made, so if we can put that right, then we will be in good shape.

Personally, I think we need a quality DM to protect our back four who have been exposed way too often this season.

  9. I think a quality DM would help - but I would like to see us adopt a less cavalier approach to games - especially away from home. It still baffles me that we went into that 8-2 loss with no defensive strategy - even though we had loads of players out. I felt sorry for the likes of Jenkinson that day - he was really hung out to dry. So, more discipline is needed - even if we dont sign any more defensive players.

  10. Anyway - I think we should have an end of season party and awards ceremony... :emoticon-0137-clapp

I think our strength is in our attacking play though, I wouldn't want to see us water that down and go to places like Utd or City to play for a draw. Fergie showed exactly why that's a bad idea the other day. Our back four get exposed because all of our midfielders want to join in the attack. Song isn't a DM, so I don't think we should expect him to be one. There are strong rumours going around that we are about to sign M'Vila (who looks like he would join us regardless of whether we're a Europa team or not <whistle>) He would be a perfect signing and would be a really strong DM to protect our back four as that's where we're being exposed.

  12. M'Vila would likely help IF he was kept to his DM role and not found wandering around in the final third whilst we were being scored against. I dont think we need to sacrifice our aim to win every game. We can be well set up and disciplined without parking the bus.

M'Vila is a proper DM though, unlike Song who is a CM and contributes to the attack. I thought that Frimpong was going to have a big impact this season and who knows, he may have prevented some of the goals where our MF went missing. If we buy a dedicated DM though, I'd expect him to play in that position.

Piebury Corner would be cheaper <ok>

    What are the categories ?

    #1435
  16. Well of course top 3 in the prediction league and a few best and worst categories. I am sure you and I would be weary from getting up to receive our 'awards'.

We'd leave it to the others to collect the 'best' categories.

<laugh> I think you and I would sweep the board in the worst awards.

An end of season awards thread could be a bit of fun, as long as you promise not to use it to start another ****ing fight <grr>
