personally i think the time has come to leave terry cole lampard gerrard ferdinand at home .theyve had their chance at tournaments and failed, were not going to win it so blood youngsters for experiance invalueable in the next world cup, plus their not dragged down by these experianced international losers
I'd have: Hart, Green, Carson Cole, Baines, Walker, Richards, Terry/ Ferdinand, Lescott, Cahill Parker, Barry, Lampard, Gerrard, Milner, Walcott, Johnson, Young, Lennon Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck, Crouch I think with the whole issue going on with Anton and JT if Terry is picked Rio will refuse to go, you can't blame him really either, so it depends whether Hodgson rates Terry or Ferdinand higher.

Were going to be Dad's Army arent we. Tournaments find out old legs. Some have quoted on here how well Lampard did in a more withdrawn role, meaning he isnt good enough at what he used to be good at. I'm hoping for the best but expect the worst unless Roy can conjure up a formation and style that confuses the opposition. Micah Richards and Lescott should be first choice for me. Can't agree with this I'm afriad. They're still some of the best players around and that's why they make the squads time and time again, not because of their reputation or age. Everyone else will have some older players and you can guarantee that if Roy left them at home, as soon we we got knocked out he'd be ridiculed for it by everyone concerned.
It works both ways though - as soon as we get knocked out with Cole, Gerrard, Lampard etc, he'd be.. perhaps not ridiculed but still critisised for not bringing in a few more up-and-coming players. Having said that, I don't think Kieran Gibbs is ready and I'm not sure we have many other young left backs coming through?

Then choosing the best partnership between Parker/Lampard/Gerrard/Barry. I don't think you can really have Rooney as a lone striker, he drops back too much. You need someone like Welbeck on there to finish. If we happen to be better at putting balls in the box, then you put Carroll/Crouch up there. I'd like to see Lescott alongside Terry - he seems to do well next to an experienced head.
Once there are better players that's when the older ones will stop playing. Age shouldn't be a factor if you're still better than the replacement. Look at Scholes he quit playing for England years and years ago because he thought he was past it but I bet Hodgson would still pick him if he had the option because he's still a great player.
Most of the younger ones simply aren't anywhere near the class of Ferdinand/Lampard/Gerrard, that's the problem. (I don't consider Terry an old player yet.) We've been robbed of Wilshere, and Cleverley has had his injuries, and you can't just go and pick another young one for the sake of it - they have to have the class to survive at that level.
We look to have a decent future ie Sturridge, Welbeck, Smalling, Jones, Hart, Wilshere, Chamberlain- it'd be good to have them all playing together ASAP, sort of like Germany, but we just wouldn't survive.
Assimilating them gradually will not only mean better results in the short term, it'll save them from a confidence-sapping clobbering early in their international careers. Those players you mentioned (and Walker) offer much hope for 2014-2020 - along with Rooney, who will be around for a while yet.
There's also the likes of Danny Rose, Jack Rodwell, Andy Carroll (certainly if he repeats Saturday's performance) and Tom Cleverley to throw in there as well. We have decent young players coming through, plenty to be positive about, just don't want all this golden generation nonsense again!
The best players are the best players available irrespective of age, i don't care how old they are aslong as they are good enough they should go. I think if you look at the team in say four or five years, it is a quality side, yet the problem is if you look at it very few are ready for the football yet. Hart Walker - Jones - Smalling - Gibbs Rodwell - Cleverly Walcott - Wilshere - Young Wellbeck Out of that eleven i would say Wilshere, Young, Hart and Walker are truely ready to be starting. All the others on their day are very good players yet they are still to inconsistent to take all of them, so surely blooding them in slowly will produce the best results over short and long term.
Hmm... you say the best players are the best respective of age... and then you leave Rooney out of a future team while including Young, who's actually older than him. Curious?
