Dempsey (and that's who the thread is about) just does not give me the warn and fuzzies. I cannot see him as a Liverpool player or being the fox in the box that we appear to need. Similarly, I would not want to see Bent at Anfield. If we were to raid Villa again then the only player that would interest me would be Allbrighton.
I agree,Dempsey has attracted a certain amount of media interest this season but he's actually been doing the business for Fulham for several seasons. Wouldn't mind him at Anfield but i don't see it happening. One player we should be looking at from the cottage is Moussa Dembele. Only 21 i think and currently in contract talks with Fulham. This guy could become a real 'box to box' beast in the near future,rarely gives the ball away and has an eye for goal.
Lets list the striker options we've heard of on here or in the pres. Dempsey, Bent, Ba, Defoe, Martinez, De Jong, Cavani, Lavezzi, Adebayor, Ballotelli, Giroud, Saldado, Llorente, Huntelaar, Gomez.
He's on record as i) being ambitious for CL football and ii)very happy @ Fulham, where he is highly valued and given flexible role with various colleagues. What benefit can Liverpool offer him ?
He's 25 in July and I hope we can hang on to him, though he has expressed ambition to play at higher level. Frankly he's had EL football with Fulham (which is all Liverpool can offer in the forseeable future) - again the North London teams are sniffing. I think Moussa fits Arsenal's style better than Dempsey. 60/40 Arsenal/Fulham
Dempsey isn't a striker, which a lot of you seem to be claiming he is. At Fulham he either plays wide left in a 442 or behind the striker/left side forward in a 4231. Plays in similar spots for the US national team. He wouldn't be the goal scorer you desperately need, but 23 goals in all competitions for a man who plays more of a midfield role isn't too shabby.
He has an average strike rate of less than 10 goals a season though which isnt good enough for a forward. hang on........ I bet Dalglish is noshing him off right now !

Anyway back on topic I think Dempsey has been doing a good job since joining Fulham but would not want him at LFC He is not prolific in front of goal and would not be the poacher that we would be after there are better players for sale then him Good player though just can't see him playing for us
