We had 3 players in the OPTA top 100 this season, Snodgrass, McCormack and Clayton.

This "gem" came from the figure Clayton is believed to have been asking for being £9k/w, the same wage it's believed Danny Pugh is on.

I do use "sources" and if you can be bothered to check back through my (incredibly boring) post history you'll see I've not once been wrong. I just don't like to show off my sauces as much as Boab haha.

EDIT: In fact, simply take a look at the 2nd page of the Jason Pearce thread.

No worries, I imagine we did not offer a great wage, but knowing what it actually was will never happen as that is not how KB rolls.

I don't think anyone knows for sure, but talk is he was asking for 3 times his current wage, somewhere just below the £3k/w mark, meaning the maximum he could have been asking for is £9k.

I could not agree more, I liked Grayson while he was here but Grayson got his chance to manage a team he loved and he was here with his heart on his sleeve. Maybe he made too many mistakes maybe he was just out of his depth when knowing how to handle Bates - Warnock isn't...

Experienced managers know exactly what is going on, Warnock has a clause in his contract saying he can walk if he can't get on with Bates. Warnock has no love for our club, if he is unhappy, if he cannot make his own decisions, if he has promises broken to him he can walk away, there will be no emotions involved and if he should choose to work again he will walk into one with ease, if he doesn't then he will retire and enjoy his QPR payoff.

Maybe Bates did and could manipulate Grayson - He can't with Warnock

I have to agree, at the end of the day we can all speculate how much he did or didn't ask but unless we know the truth the bottom line is Warnock does not feel he is worth the amount he is asking for.

Look at it this way and please remember to consider the sort of season Clayton has had, no doubt about it he 'could' be a talent in the making and on his day he looks quite classy but in reality he has had 1 in 4 good shows but... He wants triple his wage. Forget parity with other players for the moment, would your boss give you a triple your earnings pay rise? What precedent does that set out for negotiations when Warnock has to sit down with maybe 10 agents or more this season as he rebuilds the squad? If each agent bends him over for an extra £3k that would be £30k a week or an extra £1.56 million - Again I think Clayton is worth more to us than Pugh, do I think based on the season that has just finished Clayton is worth triple his wage - No way.

Warnock cannot negotiate Pugh's contract, I dare say if he could or when it is time to that Pugh will not have a 9k a week contract offer placed in front of him. Grayson had and has a lot to learn when it comes to handling wages, we have seen evidence of that.

Small point whilst we're discussing wages etc. - the sums being discussed are nett of tax - i.e. the club still has to pay the tax element on top of the wage offered. Bates confirmed this recently whilst talking about the player who wanted £15k/w (which we believe to be White, but who knows for sure?).

Either way he's adding in arbitrary amounts to make players sound more greedy.

Why us no-one else (bar Marko and 666) noticing that everything Warnock is saying right now towing the Bates party line? He's been talking about balancing the books, reducing squad size etc. but because it's Neil Warnock he's just being his own man. His transfer targets don't exactly inspire confidence either. If things work out like they are looking like doing right now we'll have a weaker squad next season than we did this. As I've posted before, Clayton was statistically our 3rd best player this season, easily earning the wage he was asking for.

One target has signed so far and that person looks better than anyone else that we have in defence. If Lonergan, White, Connolly, Pearce and Lees started already our defence would be better. Targets are all rumours and subjective, even if we go the Diouf route skill wise he is better than Paynter and Forssell, I think you are being unfair too early.

I don't think I am. Pearce is a good player, but then we transfer list Adam Clayton at the same time, one step forward one back. The other targets mentioned have uniformly been hoofball merchant journeymen, with the exception of Diouf who is a sporadically skilful journeyman who ruins team spirit wherever he spits.

Too early to worry, too little to convince me to buy a season ticket.

Time to wait and see, our only voice is our money lets see how much KB wants it.

Two names I haven't seen linked until now (unless I missed them)

    Ben Watson - Wigan Midfielder
    Stuart Beavon - Wycombe Striker

Watson looks a decent player, not sure we could stump up the cash it might require to get him away from Wigan though.

That would be brilliant, don't know anything about the other guy.

In some good news, Somma should be fit for pre-season. Imagine how much better it will be having him come off the bench when we need a goal instead of Mikael Forssell.

Without reviving the Clayton debate I could imagine a team taking shape which consisted of Clayton signing a new contract, Watson alongside him, Snodgrass on the right, love him or hate him the skill of Diouf on the left with mcCormack, Becchio and Somma fighting out the front two positions. With Lees and Pearce at the back and more to follow it could be very exciting.

If we are really after him (only 12 appearances this year) we have to do so before he is called into the Olympics and a possible shop window http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footbal...ews/watson-to-receive-olympic-call_25225.html

Any players likely to get a call up for the Olympics or the Euroes will not be signed by us, unless it's after those competitions - by which time they'll have already moved on or whatever.

bates low risk strategy won't want to sign a player who could potentially get injured without having played a game for us. Makes much more sense to spend that money developing a stand that should have been developed instead of developing the East Stand (although neither should have been developed outside the Premier League), adding additional capacity to a stadium that we can just barely half fill.

Warnock has already stated to Thom Kirwin on Yorshire Radio that we are unlikely to see players coming in that people know of, because of money. In other words, certainly do not expect any players who currently play for Premier League clubs. And don't expect anyone that is on someone else's radar

We will be gambling again, people, on unknowns who may turn into gems (yep - it's the Simon Grayson rerun), and on foreign players that no-one else has noticed or will touch with a bargepole.

You would do better off scouring the Betfair laeague, French, Spanish and various African second divisions, and finding youtube vids of these people.
