Liverpool need quality players they do not necessarily have to be British.Lucas injury caused us some problems during the season.Personally, I do not see many of our players playing for Manchester City week in week out. The strikers are not doing the job for Manchester City yesterday, Mancini had to call on the service of Yaya Toure. Until all Liverpool supporters and management accept that our players are not good enough, not even finishing fith next season we have not seen the light.
None/maybe Suarez But its not worth beating ourselves up about it. We have our own goals and we must focus on them before duelling with the big guns again.
None would make a starting Citeh XI weekk in week out. Reina and Skrtl would be good back up, Suarez looks better when he plays with intelligent players & could do well alongside Silva & Co. You need 3 Players to make a decent XI And then a whole new XI better than those. 14 high quality players from the title, sobering thought
Liverpools most impressive players, in my opinion, are Reina, Suarez, Lucas and Agger. Reina - For a number of years probably the best keeper in the league. Had a bad season by his high standards but I'd still say he was second or third best - behind Hart! Agger - Liverpools' defence looked alot better with him in it, a good footballing brain and good ability as a footballer bringing the ball out of defence. Better than Kompany? No. Better than Lescott? Yes. He'd probably make the bench and play 10-20 games a season for them i reckon. Lucas - Gone from being underrated scapegoat to being overrated due to being absent for Liverpools slump. He's a very good player, but i suspect too much is now being expected of him for next season as alot of Liverpool fans seem to be building the team around him. Not as good as Toure or De Jong but certainly a grand squad player for them (perhaps better than Barry). Suarez - Excellent, world class player and arsehole (not so much a wum attempt as a genuine observation - I said the same about Bellamy and Barton when they played for Newcastle). City don't need him as they have Silva, Nasri, Tevez, Agguero, Dzeko, Ballotelli... etc So i think none of the Liverpool team would get in to their first XI. But there's a couple who would play a good number of games for them.
Every damn player who wears the Red shirt is more than good enough to play for City. Just look at our record against them this season. It's not the supposed big clubs that we have problems against. b4f got it completely right we have our own issues to concentrate on. But Schofield is back to being a joke.
Aggers better than every CB in the prem bar Vidic n Kompany, to say he isnt better than Lescott shows how f**kin clueless Yernited fans are
Foredeck. The odd game here or there mean nothing. Chelsea beat Barca over two legs, and deservedly so, but don't expect Guardiola's successor to be recruiting in west London anytime soon. You may wish to think I'm wrong about LFC's current Squad. But I'm not. And you know it. Have a look at the Teams around you in the League and ask yourself the same question as posed in the OP, apply it to Everton or Fulham...
These players with the performances, THIS year were not good enough to play for a team that will probably win the league. 1) players careers last a long time. If we used the model of judgement some on this thread are using I'd suggest quite a few very good players would not have got the chance they did get to shine. 2) nobody on this board including their own fans would have looked at the Newcastle team and said champions league worthy players, yet they just might be. We are a work in progress. These players are where they deserve to be after this years performances. Will it be the same story next year? I personally don't believe so. I think this side as it stands will be good enough to compete (i say compete not necessarily achieve) for that 4th spot next year. Add 3 good players; we might, might compete for third if they hit the ground running. We are still either 4 world class acquisitions or a couple of years of significant development of the bulk of our younger players away from competing for the title. That's not defeatist, that's patience.
I think Agger would slot in ahead of Lescott - both are ball playing centre backs, but Agger is definitely of higher quality. Hart and Reina are very even, one is on the up whilst one is having a rough time (like his entire team). Toss a coin really, but imagine City with the extra dimension of Reina's distribution. Lucas is better than Barry (and I don't share the hatred for Barry), more rounded and arguably as good or better than De Jong, but nothing on Toure. If Lucas partnered Toure at the back they'd be a potent force - Lucas has the legs to let Toure go box-to-box. Gerrard would get in the team playing deep (instead of Barry or whoever) or rotate as one of the front players. He's lost a yard of pace but his passing and movement is still top class. Aguero etc would love to feed off him. Suarez would rotate as part of City's front line, which is formidable. He's not as good as Aguero, is a different sort of striker to Dzeko,
We know the major reasons why we did not achieve our targets this year - without any input from you. We also know that our performances have been far better than the points return describe. So your 'analysis' is both unwelcome and inaccurate.
How many Utd players would play for them? Erm.... 6-1 at home 1-0 with no shots Suggests....NONE! Bwahahhahahahahaah
I thought yesterday whilst watching City, and their options on the bench: This is why we are so far behind. Their bench yesterday was: 30 Pantilimon 02 Richards 13 Kolarov 07 Milner 11 Johnson 34 De Jong 10 Dzeko How many of those would you have in our first eleven? But remember, not that long ago a Man City team containing Robiniho was almost relegated.
With all due respect Foredeck, I don't think you do know the major reasons. You seem to believe that you are in a false position, have been wasteful in goal, unlucky etc Well some of that may be true. But after 38 games the League Table will have 19 Teams with Ifs, Buts & Maybes, all pondering what might have been had they not had such had luck/injuries/opposing goalkeepers have worldies/bad refereeing decisions etc And the Fans will be having the usual "we only need two or three Players" bullshit conversations. You don't. You need a better Player in every position, and in some case, two.
Suarez, Agger and Gerrard. They have no need for Reina, imho Hart is the best keeper in the English league at the moment.
